if you are eating 1500 calories, then your goal should be to eat less than 30% of total calories from fat. So you want to eat less than 450 calories from fat.
Calorie is just another word for energy. Your body gets energy from fat, carbohydrates, proteins and alcohol. Alcohol and fat are the biggest sources of energy per gram, therefore you should limit your intake of both.

a calorie is just a measurement, a unit of energy. they are based on the body's ability to metabolize them and how much energy is required to do so. So 500 calories of fat are identical to 500 calories of celery, but, you might have 3 lbs of celery to get that many calories and only 1/2 ounce of fat. Also, how the foods are metabolized and which will be converted to fat is dependant on the glycemic index. The longer a food takes to convert the less likely it will be used as fat. The quicker a food converts, like plain table sugar the more likely fat will build up. There is more to diet than just the number of calories in anything.
