It would work in any position, hiccups are caused by irritation to the diaphragm, the muscle that inflates your lungs, drinking water soothes the diaphragm. bending like that may be more efficient for you simply because you believe it will work, so it does.

I wish I could answer this properly but I just started having hiccups and did my usual ritual like you say, drinking from the bottom of the rim of a glass of water and it worked like it always had. So I am trying to find the answer you seek too. Don't know why but if it works stick with it.

This may be called a wives tail, but it works. I think it has something to do with the flap in your throat between the stomach and breathing tubs. And i'm glad that jonsforde doesn't live in the states anymore

these things doesent work -_- , you have fisrt to relax, to breathe not fast but not very slow. the point is that you have to keep the air in your lungs the most time you can keep it. (thy have to have FULL air try your max.) and always keep it. when you cant hold it more time exhale slowly and inhale agin tring to keep your lungs max. air.. repeat this until it goes. dont foget to breathe always relaxing, if you become exited it will make it return
