Any suggestions on what to feed her and what not to would be greatly appreciated. I know the basics, no milk, butter, cheese, etc... But what are the things that wouldn't normally be considered dairy that she could have a bad reaction to?

Anything that uses a dairy product as an ingredient. You've got to learn to read labels in detail.

You should also talk to an allergist about this. My grandson had a dairy allergy when he was very young, but he has outgrown it THANK HEAVENS because there is a lot of stuff out that that has hidden dairy.

Whey and casien, these are dairy proteins which are probably what she is allergic too. Check ingredient lists; sadly they are in almost everything.

Look for things labled "parve" these are meat and dairy free, this is a specific subset of Kosher food. Jews will not eat meat with dairy so they need to know which foods to not contain either. You will get good at spotting the lable on things

And look for online support groups they will have more info for you.

My daughter is allergy to eggs, and the doctor told me that anything with eggs listed in the first three ingredients on the label, is a no-no. With my daughter I check the label on everything, and if I'm unsure, I don't give it to her. Good luck.

yogurt is a big one and cereal bars and chocolate chips some are made with milk chocolate. you're lucky that your child is only allergic to dairy. my daughter is 19 months old and she's allergic to wheat, soy, dairy, peanuts, tomatoes, strawberries, cherries, rice, fish, & chicken to name a few.

Anything with Whey(milk by-product) in it should be avoided also.....1 year old grandson is lactose intolerant also. Dr. feels that at this age, he will most likely outgrow it.

Have your pediatrician refer you to a pediatric nutritionist who can help you - this is too important to leave it to amateurs.
