It is another Vietnam, it's another long drawn out war that we will eventually win unless the Democrats at home keep whining for us to leave. Iraq can't do it by itself yet, but every day gets closer. Problem is, Iraqi security forces can be either corrupt, or infiltrated by insurgents. That problem needs to be solved. Until then our military is the only trustworthy force in the area.

This is not another Viet Nam as far as wether or not we will leave nor will it be a lost cause no matter how many deaths we cause.
It makes perfect sense to send more forces to Iraq as the approximately 150 tousand and the approximatley 30,000 mercenarys have already completed the building of 14 permanent miltiary bases not including one Israeli airfield built by Israelis in Kurdistan, some 28 semi permanent bases along Syrian and Iranian borders, the worlds most extravegant Embassy and a luxury hotel, along with one of most luxurious 3500 suite living quarters, complete with Jakusi in room air conditioning and fully furnished, swimming pool, beauty parlor, restaurants,:fast food and a real nice one that will cater to buisness militry big wigs and embassy staff, in future and that number will need be to just occupy those sites in future.
This new force will in all probability either kill or make Sadrs' boys tow the line, satisfy the Saudis that their Sunni brethren are safe and finally end almost all the sectarian fighting.
They will do this much like with the New Kurdistani army by having at least three deep and max of 12 deep American men with every platoon but with regular Iraqui troops doing the killing and that will help deflect some of blame for countrys troubles onto the Offical Iraqui Governemtn instead of blaming just the US.
The war in Iraq has been over for more than 3 years and all that has been done since then is getting the necessary infrastructure built and now that it is in ready we need to get the Iraquis to play the dirty war games and kill more iraquis and then we can say they did it on their own.
This will leave a country of quislings and just plain butt kissers to parade in front of cameras to show just how free and prosperous Iraq has become and all due of course to American sacrifices in the name of democracy.
Iraq is no longer one contry it is three conquered areas, Kurdistan will eventually claim independence which they already have, but too soon for American military and politcos to admit.
In a land far away there once lived a prince and his merry fellows and they all lived happily ever after, and to insure that it remained so they asked a country to send military to protect them?

The more troops sent to Iraq, the more will be killed. This is a senseless war, Another Vietnam is right, That didn't get us anywhere and look at all the lives lost! Let Iraq settle their own differences! No one helped us in the civil war.

The Iraqi war is another Vietnam, Americans are being told the same BS as they were back in the 60's & 70's... No one is going to win the war in Iraq, it just a blood bath for young troops to go over there and die for a country that should fight for their own rights just like we did in ww1 & ww2...

The war in Iraq is worse than vietnam at least there some of the population wanted u.s. forces. It will get worse with the more infantry that are sent. It they were sending 20,000 trained special forces of MP's i would be for it, yet they are sending more of Americas poor and underclassed. To win an insurgent war one must win the hearts and minds. I imagine everytime a U.S. troop kills an Iraqi civilian their are more enemies made, just as cheney said. If someone bombed my town I would hate them for life. yet we sit here in the comfort of our homes watching shock and awe and the hanging of saddam. who are the sick ones? people die there everyday, because of U.S. involvement. If we were part of the Geneva accords, or if we as a nation ever loose our stronghold over the world there would be huge ramifications, for our country, our leaders and unfortunatly our soldiers. I believe that the troops now in Iraq should be moved to firebases, like in vietnam. Around stratigic targets, oil lines, water supplies, public works and so forth. We should not be patroling and still this administration has not even asked for more help from neighboring countries. Eygpt, Saudi Arabia, Indonisia, Pakistan, people who have something in common with the people on the ground. Put up tent cities and offer free health care to all Itaqis not just those injured by the U.S. use all those billions for creation not destruction. Give the Iraqis food, education, health, not bullets, grenades, and bombs. If in Vietnam we'd listened to those like John Paul Vann and others that said escalating the violence would only worsen the situtation we could have won that conflict, instead we helped start the Cambodian holocaust, and for those who say we didn't loose remember U.S. forces evactuating Saigon, oops i ment Ho Chi Minh city, it can be easily confused.
We help Saddam, and Bin Ladin, and Mao, and Ho, Pinochet, Noreaga, the list goes on, gain there power, and keep it, yet when they stopped doing the bidding of washington or there always ruthless tactics are known to the world we abandon and make them an enemy. And everyday there is a curfew inforced by U.S. troops, and there are tank patrols and M60's on the tops of Hum V's then we will have enemies. You could send a million troops and unless you plan on doing something like Hitler or Stalin or Ho becoming ruthless instilling fear and dominion, or by peaceful actions you will never defeat an insurgency, the Brits could not defeat us, the French and us could not defeat Ho, the russians could not defeat the Afgans, and Apthied faild. Only by fear, which is not the way of this country, or by a realization that we since the creation of Isreal in 1948 have put ourselves in a position to be hated by the muslim world, will we ever be able to win the peace. It is like Ho in Paris trying to speak with Wilson. If we opened our minds to the whole world instead of just the west there would be less warfare and more friendship, everyone wants to have a job and feel safe, we take that away from a lot of people with our shock and awe. Everytime a palistinian is killed in an airstrike, what type of weapon system carries out that attack, an Amercian one. This neo colonialism that we have begun is not the path to righousness, it is the path to dominion and control, and we the American people are not the Facsists, that it would take for our empiral policy to sucseed. Thank god for that and the United States of America. Tommy J and Benny were on to something all those years ago. Always remember as well, we are all the seeds of insurgency and revolution against Tyranny. Tyranny like those of the days of the Roman Empire can come from the citizens as well as the crown. Peace will always bring more peace and soldiers will always bring more war, war is peace so said orwell, is that our policy now?

Maybe if ******** king bill clithead hadnt reduced our troops by 300000 to cut government spending in the first place, we would have had the troops needed to send over there to win the war fast set up a gov. and get out. The way a world super power should have.

Yes it will work, send most of the troops to Baghdad and take control of that one area, claim victory, send most home or to Iran and by that time the elections should be approaching but the violence will return to Baghdad but be covered up by the elections in the news or some other event.

Considering that this is the 5th time he's done this, no. In fact we tried this very same thing last year as Operation Forward Together. And we all see how resoundingly successful that was.

Yes I think it will.
Unlike Operation Together Forward where it was led primarily by Iraqis but with Coalition support this will be completely US lead group.
Will be able to hold down regions and secure them with out leaving them open. This will not stop the violence but it will make it much more difficult for the baddies.
