A choppy layered cut is good, if you have straight hair, and this is easy to keep. Highlights or lowlights give it a bit of life.

go to the store and by a magazine that shows a variety of cuts. Determine the shape of your mums face, (oval, round, square, or heart) and go from there. usually short about 2 inches with a bit of spiking is cute

like the previous 2 answers, kind of along the same lines i was thinking. don't know if you get the "Reba" show where you are, but i love her hair cut. wispy bangs, kind of choppy, slightly curled towards the face, with little flippy things randomly thru out..very feminine, very flattering..

a slightly layered bob with a bit of a fringe which can be brushed aside or worn forwards, my mum has one and she looks lush
