if you take 5 average guys from today and bring them back to the "hunter gatherer" days with nothing, would they be able to create their own weapons and hunt down a mammoth?

I would do it by myself and if the other 4 were liberals I'd expect them to sue me for killing an endangered animal, but they would wait until after I cooked the mammoth for them before complaining to the ACLU about me violating the mammoth's rights.

Yes-assuming they had enough technical skills to make the weapons. I'm sure the actual act of hunting the beast would take some trial and error.
