I beleive in some situations you have to.young kids dont understand long term effects of their actions like older kids do. They need an instant consequence to get them to understand that this is a no no. When they get older you shouldn't have to any more. A two year old doesn't quite understand that if you run out in the road you could get hit by a car and have to go to the hospital, but they sure understand that if they do they'll have a sore hiney. I spanked all my kids until they were about 5, and now it's unnecessary because they already know better. Of course ther's a difference between spanking to correct them, and hitting out of anger, which the latter I have never done and never will, it solves nothing and only teaches them to do the same.

I have spanked my daughter. I can count on one hand the number of times, though. She is 10 now and doesn't need spankings. Why? Because she learned early on to act right or she would be disciplined. She is a joy to be around because she was taught how to behave. The last spanking she got was when she was 5, that was for running into the street and not stopping when I called her (she was running after a dog). She almost got hit by a car. There is a difference between discipline and abuse.

i had to tap my niece on the hand when she was 3 or 4 because she ran onto the road without waiting too see if we were crossing and to see if there was traffic coming and there was a big double decker bus just about 10 feet away from her i managed to pull her back in time gave her into trouble but i hurt her ego and never hurt her coz i would never ever hurt her hitting a child to hurt them is just plain wrong

Yep, my 3 year-old who never bites bit me so hard on my arm that without even thinking I smacked him away from me. Boy o boy did I feel bad. But I know I didn't do it out of anger, it was a natural response to the unexpected pain, much like if you get stung by a bee you naturally try to swat away the bee.

sure have and will do it again if need be.
they aren't medicated to keep them clam like some families dealings, instead my kids have my attention fully.
out of line means there is a consequence.
do i beat them ? NO
do i paddle their behind if extreme naughtiness erupts , you bet .
my kids are good honorable working citizens and now it's the grandkids that i care for until they get into school.
it's nap time :)

Yea, in a play type situation but never to actually hit her. We play games like Super Hero, no one ever gets hit for real.

Yes of course, all 4 of them, they are a lovely bunch of adults now,not scarred at all,or violent(violence breeds violence- rubbish) we are all best friends.

I was smacked by my parents as were all my generation, and we are a great bunch.

Look around you now at the kids, then tell me we were wrong.

Never have, never will. That is all am going to say about that, since I could write a novel, for all the reasons not to hit your child.

Sorry Bob, I accidentally hit the thumbs down, I meant to give you a thumbs up.

and to Mystic, although you are being honest, am I to assume that you hit a breast feeding child...thus a very young child? Sounds like poor self control to me.

Yes. I've lost my cool. I'm not proud of it. I've also been sure to talk to them afterward, to let them know I made a mistake.
