certain family members of mine think that because when i was a baby they helped take care of me and my brothers and yet we owe them our lives when all they do is treat us like their personal slaves.

ok since some don't understand the question it is my aunt and uncle. i am 21 and live on my own but they want me to clean their house do their dishes and take care of their children, but when i need a min. to breathe b/c i work constantly and am a single parent they say im selfish and i am a mother now i don't get "free time". i am very grateful,if it wasn't for them i wouldn't be here. but it doesn't mean that they can demean me and my brothers and treat us like dogs or slaves. i am the type of person that if i am feeling "perturbed i ask if i have a reason to b/c sometimes we blow when there is no real reason to.i'm just tired of them taking advantage of me and my brothers and then putting us down.

People are stupid. If I had to raise you I would look at it as an opportunity to make something out of these kids. Show love, affection, and conversation that I missed out on when I was growing up. I try to do this with my four kids. I do make my kids do chores, because this is a family and we all have to help make it work, but my kids don't owe me their life. Respect, yes.

Hard to tell with this little of info. Parents? Aunts/Uncles? Do you feel used like a slave and given unfair tasks or were you just expected to do normal usual chores like others in the house?
You sound resentful. If you want some space, without a guilt trip, a great way to do it, is by using the "you can attract more flies with honey than vinegar" approach. For example: If you were taken in by family members, say something like you are grateful for their generosity in helping you and your brothers out. Thanks to them you are now grown and independent and able to make it on your own in this world and now you have plans to....(whatever your plans are.) You would appreciate their understanding in your new venture.
One possibility, some people view family as priority. They may just love you and feel responsible for you, and might just have a poor way of showing it. But hey, nothing wrong with someone loving you.

Well, let's see....where would you have been without them? What have you done to show your gratitude? If they took you in, as well as your brothers, don't you feel like you owe them something? I wonder if you would do the same thing in thier circumstances. Why don't you think about your attitude....and if you're over 18 move out.

You dont 'say how old you are but if you are all over 18 you just have to move on and ignore it. But if your living together still well changing dirty diapers must count for something.. take it humor and turn it around on them.

That's very selfish of them to feel that way. If they helped you out...it should've been out of love not b/c they wanted something in return!!!!
You'll be fine and they have to get over themselves!!!
