What, if any, practices of Islam and Christianity can be pieced together and what are too contradictory to be immersed together?

Islamic doctrine is based on worshipping God alone.

And therefore the practice of putting mediums in between yourself and God. Is BIG sin. Its one of those things God does not forgive. It is equal to holding partners with God.

Modern Christians allow Jesus to be their medium between God and at times consider him to be God Himself.

So no you cannot have current Islam and current Christianity in the same picture.

But allow me to say that Jesus's original message was worshipping God alone. And all that jazz about him being Gods word was figurative speech...*shrugs*

Therefore the religion Jesus brought is the same as Islam anyway.

As an additional info to this answer, might I be so bold to say that there are actually practices that have put modern christianity and islam in the same picture: bahaaism is one of them.

Not exactly, but the Nation of Islam and other African American Islamic groups borrow a lot of style--and some substance--from Christianity. For example the Moorish Science Temple of the early 20th century merely reworded fgospel hymns to make them more "Islamic." Also groups like the NOI tend to borrow a lot of their apocalypticism from the New Testament book of Revelation.

Also, some scholars think that Islam itself is a descendant of some form of Jewish and/or heretical Christianity on the basis of some of its beliefs about Jesus, etc.

It is impossible to be pieced together. The foundation of Christianity is the confession that Jesus Christ is Lord, the Son of the Living God. He was born of a virgin, shed His own blood for the remission of our sins, and raised from the dead for our justification. This is the Gospel of Gods redeeming Grace & Salvation.

The Koran denies all this except Jesus being born of a virgin. And the Koran says to add partners to Allah is greatest sin and those who do are going to hell. So, Muslims deny the Holy Bible by saying it was corrupted.
