Ghandi was more of a social leader than a religious leader...the Dalai Lama is believed, by Buddhists, to be the living reincarnation of the Buddha and is seen as the highest holy figure in the Buddhist religion...they both believe in peace, equality, non violent resistance and the enlightenment of man in order to be free of our eathry bounds...

there were many dalai lamas, it is just a title, like saying a pope. if im not mistaken the present one is the 14th or 17th and they are saying that the latest dalai lama has fufilled what was there to fulfill and maybe there wont be another suceeding him.
the two are similar in many ways:
peaceful resoltions
simplistic
non materialistic
altruistic

Both worked for peace and justice through love of neighbor. both have given their lives for their beliefs -- Ghandi was assassinated -- the Dalai Lama lives in exile (from Tibet to India)
