I am thinking about enlisting in the military but I get a cold sore from time to time and was wondering if this could possibly prevent me from joining. Or if you get in but have one pop up in boot camp or afterwards. Would this be a problem?

Herpes simplex, the virus tht causes cold sores is not tested for and is not a disqualifier for military service.

Hahaha, no. I'm all signed up to enlist and I have cold sores. If you are that worried, take a multi-vitamin and L-Lysine (an amino acid avaliable at any vitamin store) and you will very rarely get cold sores.

My son is in the military with allergies. I don't see why cold sores should keep you out of the military.

no, cold sores are not considered a problem for enlistment. They do not in anyway impair your ability to perform your duties.
