Ali, hands down the greatest fighter any weight of all time. If you had to pick the worst era to be a successful heavyweight, it would be sandwiched between 3 top 10 all time greats: Liston, Frazier and Foreman. No fighter ever had the level of competition he did. How many other fighters are there that fought 3 other all time greats? NONE. Another way to compare is to come up with a resume of top 10 victories. Lemme rank Ali's top 10 wins. Foreman, Liston1, Frazier3, Liston 2, Frazier 2, Patterson 1, Patterson 2, Norton 2, Williams, Terrel.
Now please, anyone, give me Marciano's top 10 and let's compare. Ali is 5-1 with 4 KOs against top 10 all time fighters. Has any other fighter even had 6 fights against all timers? When you look at quality wins, no-one can lay a finger on the great Ali.

Hands down Muhammad ali: Ali defeated almost every top Heavyweight in his era, an era which has been called the Golden Age of Heavyweight boxing. Ali was named "Fighter of the Year" by Ring Magazine more times than any other fighter, and was involved in more Ring Magazine "Fight of the Year" bouts than any other fighter. He is an inductee into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and holds wins over seven other Hall of Fame inductees. He is also one of only three boxers to be named "Sportsman of the Year" by Sports Illustrated. He is regarded as one of the best pound for pound boxers in history. He was a masterful self-promoter, and his psychological tactics before, during, and after fights, were very effective. It was his supreme skill, however, that enabled him to scale the heights and sustain his position.
There is some dispute among boxing historians about whether Ali or Joe Louis is the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time. While the International Boxing Research Organization ranks Louis as the best, a 1998 ranking in Ring magazine named Ali as the greatest heavyweight of all time.

Muhammad Ali
Muhammad Ali did not get whooped lots of times, only 5. But most of them he avenged. Frazier twice. Ali fought some of the greatest fighters in history. Its not like nowadays where everyones avoiding fights to try to keep their records good and everything, Ali fought everyone who wanted to. He had wars in the ring, Two of my favorite fights ever came from ali, Ali-Foreman and Ali-Frazier III. Joe Louis was also great, but I don't see anybody on Ali's level who knocked out Sonny Liston in one round.
