I don't really approve of bargaining because they do need the money and are forced to bargain due to competition. But I would suggest that you tell the vendor that you found another place/person who is selling for less, then try and look like you are going to leave forcing the person to cave in. It also helps to be nice and give them some extra business.

Set some specific goals of what you are willing to settle for.
Then ask for (or insist on) values that are way beyond what you want. They might surprise you.
Then be patient (the Chinese are Very patient) and wait for the Chinese to respond with a counter proposal.
Then repeat that process as often as necessary.

The keys are to be patient, polite, and allow yourself enough time for the process to work. Silence is a great negotiating tool, so use it.

learn how to say, "How much?" in Chinese. It is easy to say. and they will think you know how to speak a little Chinese which will create a pleasant shopping experience.

Don't offer on anything that you are not willing to walk away from. you will be amazed at how fast the price will drop once you start walking.

Never pay what they're asking. Offer half and then gradually go up from there.
