niether one is dominant yet. LCD's are sharper but have lag if color changes fast but plasma isnt as sharp.
if your seriously looking for a TV then resolution is more important then LCD\Pllasma so look at resulution first then at the type of TV

Well, I just got done TV shopping and the truth is after tons of research, LCD is better than plasma, only because they last longer, and the plasma's made to lats longer have bad pictures. The fact of the matter is if you are wanting a TV that lasts longer than 4-7 years, then stay away from them both. Based off consumer research, the best way to go is with a flat HDTV tube. They are much more expensive than your other tubes but if you find a good one, Samsung! It gives you the same picture as a LCD, or plasma and lasts longer. Since it is a flat tube it is smaller than older tubes, mine looks like a LCD just with a little wider back. Anyways, the samsung flat tube that is HDTV ready is a consumers best buy for 2006!

Plasma screens give you a better picture but cost alot more, plus the screen tends to droop after about 4 or 5 years or so. LCD screens give you a nice picture at an affordable price.
However, if you want great picture at a great price, I'd say you should go with a DLP screen. They use tiny mirrors to display your picture. The quality is better than the plasma and the cost is equal to or less than an LCD.

LCD or CRT.
The Plasma TVs are turning out to have a four to six year life span.
That's right, a plasma TV will last a year for every grand you spend on it.
On the flip side, my 32 inch CRT TV is going strong after ten years.

LCD is good for 1080p resolution up to about 42". Larger than that, plasmas or projection TVs are better.

Until quite recently, the superior brightness, greater color spectrum, and wider viewing angle of color plasma video displays, when compared with LCD televisions, made them one of the most popular forms of display for HDTV Flat panel displays.
For a long time it was widely believed that LCD technology was suited only to smaller sized televisions, and could not compete with plasma technology at larger sizes, particularly 40 inches and above.
As of late 2006, Matsushita's flat-panel lineup for 40" screens or larger is composed only of plasmas, while their smaller to mid-sized line is LCDs.
However, since then, improvements in LCD technology have narrowed the technological gap. The lower weight, falling prices, higher available resolution which is crucial for HDTV, and lower electrical power consumption of LCDs make them competitive against plasma displays in the television set market. As of late 2006, analysts note that LCDs are overtaking plasmas, particularly in the important 40" and above segment where plasma have previous enjoyed strong dominance a couple years before.
Another trend that is happening in the industry is the consolidation of manufacturers of plasma displays, with around fifty brands available but only five manufacturers.

it depends.. plasma tv's tend to overheat easier than lcd's so if you're in a hot coutnry and you cant pay that much for airconditioning, then get the lcd. well if you can spend a lot of money, get a really big plasma!
