eating late does not make you gain weight.
if your daily caloric intake is 2,000 cals to maintain your current body weight you can eat those 2,000 anytime of the day.
the amount of lean body mass that a person has will have a direct effect how much of a decrease is seen in the resting metabolic rate during sleep. lean body mass is biologically active, it burns calories 24 hours a day.
the more lean body mass that a person has the less the metabolic rate will decrease during sleep.
Factors influencing variation in basal metabolic rate include fat-free mass, fat mass, age, and circulating thyroxine but not sex, circulating leptin, or triiodothyronine

Yes, it can cause you to be fatter.
Your metabolism is much slower at night, so your body won't be burning off the calories that you are putting into your body. Plus, you're not very active after 11pm.
That's why it's important to eat every few hours throughout the day. I know a couple of unhealthy, overweight eaters. They go all day without eating so that they can basically stuff their faces with high calorie, unhealthy food later in the day. This is just making them heavier, even if they do stay within their recommended daily caloric intake. Try not to eat 2 hours before you go to sleep. And spread the calories out throughout the day.

Hi,
You are right that eating later means we become fatter.. kind of..
You see, after 8pm, our body will want to focus on delivering the nutrients we have eaten in the day and send them to other parts of the body.
If we have dinner at 11pm as compared to 7pm, your dinner will go into your body and get left in the stomach because your body is trying to focus on delivering nutrients and thus it cannot digest well.
If you need to eat late at night, I suggest that you might want to try a fibre drink.
Anyway, if you are interested in more health tips or how to make you slimmer and healthier, you might want to try a detox.
i lost 15kg within 2 mths doing a detox.
You can see my before and after pics here:
http://dreamsincredibles.blogspot.com/2005/10/angel-lost-15kg-within-2-months.html
Now, I specialize in helping people lose weight easily and quickly using the detox program i used.
If you do a detox, you will be able to:
- gain better health and
- better vitality and
- even more radiant skin and
- the loss of some excess pounds as well,
All you need to do is three things.
Number one, follow the detox programme which requires you to change your diet a little bit. Eg, take more vege and less meat and seafoods.
Number two, use 1 minute a day to take some natural health foods consumable even by babies and pregnant women that will enhance the speed and the effect of the detox.
Number three, drink lots of water to flush the toxins out.
If you exercise by either running or swimming, it will furthur enhance the results.
And that's it.
The rest is up to you.
So what do you think? ;)

A person's metabolism (one whom works regular business hrs) slows down around 6 pm. So, yes, if you eat right before you go to sleep, you will burn less calories and gain more body fat.
Foods higher in fiber are more filling and can satisfy hunger longer. Less carbs in the evening is better if you are watching your weight. Fill up on veggies and protein and a small amount of carbs for dinner. Don't forget breakfast--eat larger amounts for breakfast and lunch and smaller portions at dinner.

Eating late does not directly make you gain weight, especially if you are exercising and keeping your total calorie intake throughout the day within your specific range. But, eatling late does slow down your body's repair process while you sleep because it is too busy trying to digest food, and this can alter your total metabolic process. Keep your last meal less than 2 hours before you sleep.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
Get started today!

It depends on the speed of metabolism of each person. If someone with very fast metabolism, he/she can burn the food very fast so that person might not gain much weight. If someone has a very slow metabolism, his/her body absorbs whatever is taken in by his/her body regardless how early this person has dinner. So, there's no definite answer for this question.

Eating before sleeping is always a bad idea. Your body is basically shutting down and nothing is being done with those calories. If you eat that late, try walking right after to help your metabolism kick in.

You should eat after like 8ish, depending on what time you go to bed. You get fatter because all the food stays in you while you sleep. If you eat it earlier, you walk around and exercise and burn a lot off.

Foods eaten late at night MAY cause a person to start gaining weight just because you're less active at that point.
