The Ford Fusion is a fantastic vehicle that has gained consumer confidence since its introduction almost three years ago. The Fusion is in direct competition with the Import market, namely Honda Accord, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry, and since these vehicles are directed at all age levels, the Fusion is doing the same. We have had everything, from the young sporty enthusiast, to the new family, and to the retired individual, all showing tremendous interest in this vehicle.
You will like this car for its "command seating", which allows easy access into the vehicle for both front occupants, its incredible amount of space when you travel or make large purchases, its quiet and responsive drive, and most of all.... its priced incredibly well. It will be a big step up from the Fiesta, and a car you'll enjoy for a very long time. Good luck

Hi, My mother - in - law bought a fusion less than 1 year ago. She used to drive a little micra and was terrified of bigger cars!! she was looking at a fiesta but there was a special edition fusion available at the time with a few extras on like air con electric windows tinted glass, for the same sort of money. i convinced her to take it the fusion for a drive and once out she discovered the ride height to be a great benefit as she felt she had a lot more control and felt a lot safer.... bless here she is only short!! Now at the end of the day apart from the interior as far as i am aware the fusion is just a fiesta with a bigger body kit and a higher ride height but given the choice I'd take the fusion all day, especially if you can get one of the special edition ones they regularly release!!

The Ford Fusion in North America is a car close in size to the European Mondeo.
The Ford Fusion in Europe is a tall hatchback, based on the Fiesta, slightly longer, and with a higher driving position.
It is ideal for older people, for whom the higher seats allow easier entry and egress, and the Fiesta mechanicals give decent reliability plus good ride and handling. The fuel consumption will be slightly higher than for a Fiesta, due to slightly greater weight and frontal area, and performance will be slightly less (for the same engine) for the same reasons. The looks aren't everyone's cup of tea, but they've grown on me. I'd go for a 1.6 TDCi given the choice, but all the engines are decent.
You could also consider the Mazda2. It too is built on Fiesta mechanicals, and is taller than a Fiesta, but not as tall or as long as a Fusion.

Ford Fusion for an elderly couple? Sounds like a good swap, I will get my parents bags packed!
Sorry,
The Fusion has a relatively high upright driving position (think wing backed chair as opposed to slouching sofa) and the one I borrowed from work before christmas was a pleasent car to drive if a little slow (but it was the basic model and loaded with four men plus luggage!). The rear view mirror only ever offered me a view of the two rear seat passengers who, while they never complained about legroom, did fight over the centre armrest, The car seems to get thinner toward the back. I doubt you could comfortably fit three adults in the back, but three children would not be a problem. For the cars overall size the boot is quite large and my only complaint would be that the seats are (like most modern cars) too firm.

If you're used to Fords definitely go for another. Especially if you have a good dealer nearby as thats almost as important as the car you choose.
The Fusion is a good car and I know what you mean about being a bit higher up.
Go for it!

The Ford with the high driving position is the 500. It feels like you are up high like in a small SUV.
The Fusion appears to be a car from an American Manufacurer that can finally compete on equal footing with the imports. I took my girlfriend to look at one because she wants a new car. Although she found it too boring I thought it was an incredible value and enjoyed the understated styling.

I'm an automotive journalist, and have driven the Fusion and it's siblings at Lincoln and Mercury. It may be a bit of a cliche, but elderly people are usually less interested in performance than roominess and comfort, ease of ingress and exgress and so-called command seating, meaning they don't feel to low to the road. If you're looking at Fords, I'd therefore suggest the 500, which has all of the above, plus it's likely to be cheap these days since it's being discontinued.
