I'm one of hundreds who hasnt got an nhs dentist, none where i live anyway. As a result a filling came out, the tooth got infected, the pain was excrutiating, it developed into a bad bad abcess, the tooth was done for by then but it could nt be taken out cos of the raging abscess. I got really ill by which time the hospital had to refer me to one of their dentists who first treated me with horse pill size antibiotics and painkillers. When the tooth was safe to extract another appointment was made to remove it, cos by then the tooth was dead. All for want of a filling. The cost was only about £11.00 cos it was an emergency. The extraction was ok, it was the abcess that was the worst part. Good luck with yours.

Hi Ali again..
It is unusual to need surgery to drain an abscess.
This I have only ever recommended a fewtimes and ONLY if the abscess has grown to an extent that it has spread into the neck or throat and it may begin to restrict the airway OR if it has spread to the sinuses, floor of the mouth or roof of the mouth.

These extended infections are not common however IF this is the case the surgical procedure is very fast and uncomplicated its simply a matter of sourcing the abscess and draining it.

No. I'm a U.S. Veteran with no Dental and sorry V.A. health care. I lance them myself with a razor and peroxide it out. I take animal grade Tetracycline from Tractor Supply. Works for me.
