Obesity is a life choice, not a handicap, If it were n elderly man, that could barly move, for one I would question why he was driving, but then he would have a case,
But just because that guy chose to eat one to many big macs,
I don't think he has a right to even have a handicap sticker.
You should have told him to park in back, the exercise would do him good.
Sorry if it's mean

Maybe this guy was handicapped other than his weight in a way that you could not see.You violated the rights of those who are handicapped and if you read the handicapp parking sign you know that you can be fined/or prosecuted. You broke the law!!!!He may have called the police on you because this had happened to him one too many times and he let the person get away with it.How would you feel if you were in his shoes?
No I'm not handicapped, but have friends that are.

There really isn't any rational justification for an able-bodied person to park in a handicapped spot. You may think that this man was only handicapped by his weight but the next car to pull up may have been an amputee or a little old lady with arthritis. The man had every right to call the cops, you violated the law.

You have no rights in this case. If you fought this case you would lose. Imagine if you had to use a wheelchair or had difficulty walking long distance and the only available spot to you that was closest to the door was unavailable because of some jerk who decided they were above the law and parked there illegally?
I guess you will be one of those people who won't understand until you end up with a disability yourself. Go ahead and take it to court, you won't win. This man had every right to call the police. There are state fines in parking illegally and some businesses also add their own fines as well.
Another thing to take into consideration, there are hidden disabilities like lung and heart problems that would allow a person to be eligible for a disability placard or plates. As long as a person has the placard or disability plates, they are legally eligible to park in the designated spaces.
What would happen if you decided to park in the street in front of a fire hydrant because you were running into the store? How would you react if there was a fire and the fire department couldn't access the hydrant because you were blocking it?

It doesn't matter what the temp is or how long you were there for - handicapped parking is only for the handicapped. He had every right to call the police on you and it's not his frustration with his handicap that caused him to yell at you - it's his frustration with all the non-handicapped people that park in handicapped parking spots regularly. Next time park in a non-handicap spot :)

Alot of people who are not handicap park in Handicap Parking Spaces and it leaves the "Handicapped" no where to park and they really need those places. Unless you walk in their shoes, you would not understand. However he did not have to be so rude about it. He obviously has ran into this many times and you are correct, you are the one he chose to vent on.

You have to face the consequences and pay the fine. The bottom line is that you shouldn't be in the space because it might have been needed by a true handicapped person.
It's ashame that you have to get picked on by the pig-man. And I feel that unless you have no use of your legs or are very old that you shouldn't be like pig-man and get a 'handicapped space', if you choose to be a pig-man you could use the excercise.
Too many people have the entitlement mentality, you and him, he is worse but you lose the legal battle.

Sorry, but, your bust...If it was a handicapped space, it was marked as such, and you "broke da rules". I think calling the police was a little odd and over-reactionary on his part, though, usually they just yell at you and then spend the next week telling all their friends about the AS*HOLE that took "their" space.

It's easier to just admit you were in the wrong. You shouldn't have parked there. I think he or the store owner has the right to call the police.
If you ever had a disability and needed to park there, you'd be more conscious.
