Your question makes it seem as if we should give god a name. It is not up to us. We have not given him a name, nor should we try. He has told us his name he wishes to be called. It is Jehovah. It is the name of the true God from the times of the first man and woman until now. It has not changed. Other forms of religion choose to make gods for themselves. budah, allah, ect.

Why should we use the name of the true God? Because he wants us to draw close to him and worship him using the name he gave us to use.

God has a personal name and it is Jehovah
"That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth." Psalm 83:18
Notice that the psalmist said that God's only name is Jehovah and this comes from the KJV, the one many trust as the only "reliable " version.
Since his Son has a personal name (Jesus), should not the Creator of the universe have a personal name also? All of us have personal names and we like to be called by them. Jehovah likewise likes to be called by the only name that belongs to him alone.
"God" is only a title, like judge or president. It is very impersonal. In order to have a close relationship with Jehovah, we need to use his name often, especially when we speak to him by means of prayer.

God has no name- he said for himself-I am who I am, in Hebrew it is Yahweh, people did not translate it, so there are people who are confused, just like you, and think that God has a name, which he really doesn't need, since there is no other God. We people have names because we are many, but God is only one.
Hope I could help:)

It is true that the Almighty did not say, "Listen, thousands of years from now when a new language called English comes along, they can pronounce my name as 'Jehovah' and that's fine."

Instead, like with any and every personal name, different languages TRANSLATE personal names to fit their lingual tendencies. George becomes "Hor-hey" in Spanish or "Gay-org" in German and no one gets upset.

It's not exactly wrong to call the Almighty by the impersonal "God", just as it's not wrong to call one's offspring "Child". If we want a familiar and close relationship, however, it makes sense to use the personal name of someone we love. The Scriptures encourage us to use God's personal name.

The Hebrew name “Yahweh” (or “Yehowah”) does seem to accurately pronounce the divine name. Just as the Hebrew name “Yeshua” (or “Yehoshua”) is translated into “Jesus” in English, the Hebrew name “Yahweh” is translated into “Jehovah” in English.

The important thing is to use God’s personal name in whatever language you speak, rather than insisting upon the impersonal! The name “Yahweh” is certainly preferable to the non-name “God” or “Lord”, especially if you speak Hebrew. If you speak English, feel free to use the name "Jehovah".

(Psalms 83:18) That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth

(John 17:26) [Jesus said] I have made your name known to them and will make it known, in order that the love with which you loved me may be in them

I don't know about Jehovah, but "Allah" means God in Arabic.

Why not?

If you believe there is a godand that it created us wouldn't it stand to reason that it has some sort of designation it gave itself?

If god is a creative force then it must have a personality. To have a personality means to have an identity. To have an indentity means to have a name.

It is man who is putting thier names on God. I think that just divides people up, and makes enemies. Its the "my dad is bigger than your dad", thing. Boys will be boys.

Actually God calls Himself both in the Old and New Testament "I Am" . Isn't that cool. It means i wasn't or will be it means I am eternal without beginning or end. Eternal. Genius.
