Most people believe that you should not work out everyday. But it is not a rule or anything. I used to run everyday and it never caused me any kind of trouble. If you are lifting weights and stuff like that, it is recommended that you do a day on and a day off. That is just so your muscles can recoup. But it is not manditory. The reason why military people can do it is because after basic, they get their break or they get into a less rigorous routine. Basic tires you out because your muscles don't get any rest.

It really depends on the kind of exercises you do. For weight training, you really should take a couple days off at least when exercising specific muscle groups. With cardio, you can get away with working out without taking days off more.

Soldiers typically do endurance-type exercises, which include aerobic and anaerobic cardio exercises. Someone who doesn't work out can benifit greatly from this program. However, a serious athlete would have negative gains in boot camp, because it's not an optimal way of building. No one ever got really buff in boot camp, mostly leaned out and maybe in better cardio shape.

Doing lots of pushups, pullups and situps will only give limited strength gains and some muscle tone, but will not enhance real muscle gains.

It would of course depend on the level of intensity of the workout.
Many body builders workout daily, but, will alter their routine, for instance, upper body one day, lower body the next, or some variation along those lines. Rest and nutrition are also a very important component to frequent training.

You can workout as much as you want, as long as you're not overtraining your muscles you won't have any problems.
