My husband's scalp is extremely dry. I thought it was due to the cold weather, but he has that all year round. It's so dry and dandruffy that it falls in chunks sometimes. If he rubs his head and bends over, it literally looks like it's snowing....it's sort of gross! Anyway, he has gone to the point of shaving his head every two weeks to see if that gets rid of it and no luck. He is using Fructis Shampoo for normal to dry hair and that seemed to help in the beginning but I guess it's effect has worn off. Could it be a skin disease? Please help, we need some ideas/suggestions...quick!

Selsun Blue works really well for me, and it doesn't leave behind a weird smell like some dandruff shampoos. I should say, though, that my dandruff is caused by oily scalp. The oil causes the dead skin cells to stick together and come out in clumps. I haven't had the problem in years, though, because I use dandruff shampoo. However, if I skip washing my hair for a couple of days then my scalp starts to itch.

I totally hear you. I've had the same problem for years.

I've finally found something that works for me. I use Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo. Expensive, but marvelous. It has menthol so it exposes the scalp. AFTER that, I use Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment (The orange stuff, best you can buy over the counter). Lastly, I use the Tea Tree conditioner to moisturize.

If that still doesn't work, it's time to see a dermatologist and get a prescription. Don't stop until you get it fixed. Unfortunately, people react very negatively to dandruff, especially if you're young, and assume things about you that can hurt you socially and professionally.

Try Neutrogena T SAL shampoo or the T Gel. It is very common in the derm office to see this. If the shampoos don't help he may have psorasis & require a liquid RX that can easily be applied.
