are you asking to sit with them because you are interested in a relationship--if so leave them alone and don't pursue them
If your wanting to sit with them because they seem to understand the class and you don't and you are just wanting help then by all means sit with them.
How soon after "sitting" with them did you discover they were married?--Was it right away or after class or 10 weeks later.
And even if you were "interested" they may not have realized it and when they did they told you they were married.--if thats the case just forget pursuing them or any type of relationship let them be--you don't want to be the one to break up a marriage, especially if kids might be involved.

To "sit" with them in class?? Why would that be uncomfortable? Married people are allowed to have friends too. If the relationship is more than friends (or even flirty friends), then you have a problem, but other than that, it shouldn't be a problem at all. There is no fault in either of you.

Did the person have a ring on his/her finger? No, you are not at fault at all, married people can be friends with singles too, you know.........there wouldn't be an uncomfortable situation if you clear the air with the person.

You are not in the wrong. There is no way for you to know the marital status of a stranger without talking to them or inspecting their hand. Married people can talk to single people without it being uncomfortable. They would be in the wrong if they came on to you before or after you knew they were married. Relax

Sounds like you found out he was married after you first talked to him. You are not at fault, but if he tries to get with you even though he is married, he is the one at fault.

It is not wrong to ask someone if you can sit next to them in class;just don't get any ideas about trying anything that could get you killed. It depends on what else happened besides your sitting next to that person in your class. To an extent, you would be at fault.

Last semester, I had a lab partner that always sat next to me. He was a guy and I am a married woman. I told him I was married and it was no problem. He never once crossed the line.

No not if you are just sitting with them in class, who cares not like you are asking him to sleep with you and cheat on his wife. You're just sitting in a class.
