I have several recommendations.
1 Try the Eucerna (or Walmart brand Equate) that comes in a tub. It's like a paste instead of a lotion. Lotion contains alcohol which can actually increase dryness. Lotion also typically contains fragrences which you may be allergic to.

2. Try Mary Kay's Satin Hands pampering kit. It's more expensive than the first one but SO worth it.

3. When you wash your hands, hand wash dishes, and even when batheing, use as cool of water (not cold) as you can stand. Hot water strips the natural oils away causing your hands to become drier quicker. Moisture only lasts 3 minutes on your body before it drys. So moisturize after every hand washing.

4. I recently read that one of the symptoms of thyroid disease is dry skin. This does NOT mean if you have dry skin that you have thyroid disease, but it is one of the symptoms. So if you have, or if a woman on your mother's side has thyroid disease you might ask for a thyroid test if you have other symptoms.

The problem with most lotions that are supposed to help moisturize the skin, contain alcohol that drys your skin. I use a soy-based lotion that contains no alcohol and in naturally rich in vitamin E. Soybean oil has a small molecular structure which enables it to go into the epidermis( the top layer of your skin). This stimulates the synthesis of collagen, elastin, and other proteins. It moisturizes and protects the cells without clogging them and can even help even out skin tone and can correct pigmentation.
Soy protein is very good for your cuticles as well and hydrates the driest of skin! Here is the website to visit to order and for more info!

Warm olive oil....put at least a half cup in a shallow bowl, if you use the Microwave to heat it...just a few seconds is enough and test it , so you won't burn yourself. The warmer the oil the better to penetrate the skin... do this before you take a shower at night.
Soak your hands in it for at least 20 minutes every night...(oil can be reused keep it in the fridge)
This is the best thing I have found to stop the cracking and peeling and the soreness.

Eucerin Urea 10% Lotion or Neutrogena Norwegian formula

Neutrogena Norwegian formula (not the new Light version they have) is great.

It's best to use it right after you wash your hands, lightly tap it dry then apply just a little dab to slightly damp hands and it will absorb really well. It's a little harder to absorb on completely dried hands and it's not smelly like a lot of hand lotions are.

I have the same problem and I was introduced to Arbonnes Herbal Foot cream (i know it says foot) but people with ecxzema and extremely dry hands, use the foot cream. I bought it and also bought the skin conditioning oil, and I swear my cracked hands have been crack free, and i feel like these arent even my hands...I love the stuff....its crazy how soon and how good it helped healed my skin

I have just started using Vaseline for my hands and lips. It works great!!! I buy the little ones that they sell in the travel section. The section with all of the little travel shampoo's and deodorants. It's great because it's so small that it can fit in your purse or pocket. You can buy them at Target or any drug store. Also if your hair gets dry in the winter, try Johnson's baby shampoo or the generic version. It cleans your hair, but it leaves some of the natural oil in also so your hair is soft.

You might want to try Kiehl's Ultimate Strength Hand Salve. It's a thick lotion formulated for severely dry and cracked hands. It works good.

Mary Kay's Satin Hands Set it REALLY good. It is three steps: Extra emollient night cream, a scrub and cleanser (smells delish like peaches), and hand cream. If you use it(all three steps) three times a weeks you will definiately see and feel a difference. I have my scrub step in the bathroom as the handsoap. The set is $30. Pick it up here: www.marykay.com/kbrown10622

Well first of all, if you wash your hands or wash dishes alot the soap tends to dry out your hands badly. I would get some cocoa butter lotion for extra dry hands and skin. It always helps me.
