so what is your opinion? If there is a heaven and hell and someone is an overall very good person, but they are not religious, what do you think will happen to that person?

They will go to the REAL Heaven - not the "Christians-only" bogus Heaven you keep hearing about!

According to the Bible, there is no such thing as a "good" person, because both Jesus and Paul said that only God was good. Since God cannot go to Hell, I suppose that technically your assumption is correct, if somewhat useless, because none of us are God.

The rest of us have sins of some sort that we need to be forgiven for in order for us to get into Heaven to live with a perfect God who cannot stand the presence of evil in any form or amount.

People who think that they are "good" usually do not ask Jesus for forgiveness, because they assume that they haven't done anything that they need to be forgiven for. Therefore, they usually do not go into Heaven, because they never are humble enough to confess their sins. They have not, because they ask not.

You asked me for my opinion, and what Jesus said seems to make sense to me. Every person is "good' in his own eyes (even Adolph Hitler and Al Capone considered themselves to be good since they believed that they were simply giving the public what it wanted), but people who know them might not agree.

I think the real question is if a person doesn't want to know God here on earth and spend time with him here- then why would he want to spend eternity with Him. The idea of hell is the one place with out God.
But, it would depend on how you define good. Trying to be good to enter heaven is like painting your barn white- admiring how pristine it is. But, then its snows and next to the snow your barn appears dingy. Only perfection can enter heaven- so next to perfection we are not as good as we think we are. Think of standing next to M.L.K. jr. in heaven. and if he was the standard of goodness and then we're right behind him- how would our best efforts compare. The Bible says no one is good b/c no one is perfect. I'm not trying to be spiritual- but that is why the Bible says we need Jesus.

The ONLY way to an eternal life spent in heaven with our Father is to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. That's it.

first of all the belief of christians is wrong that thier all sins will be forgiven.
neither those sins will ever be forgiven by god, if god do this and it would be a un-justice to all other humans and all other religions. as this concept is only in christianity and not in any other religion.

as i believe that god is most justful, so here is the brief explanation of your question what i believe.

suppose if any one dont follow any religon or born and died in that part of world where no one give him concept of religion or god, then how his fate will be decided? if any one think that he will be send to hell then he is worng.
in every society even in tribes of africa, there are some norms , good things to do, bad things not to do, suppose a person of african tribes, living in jungle , if he followed the existing laws of his society, and if he is good person accordring to all norms and laws of that society, then god will do justice with him, and put him in heavens.

i hope this will help you in understading of god and its justice with his own creation and whom to put in hell and in heavens.

god will decide fate of every indivisaul according to religion he followed. if you followed christianity and followed it with heart and obey to all rules that were laid down by bible and live a poise life, and commit no sin, that is accordring to your religion is sin. then surely you will be in heavens no matter even if christianity is not true religion. same wise if a muslim or jew follow his religion with heart and commit no sin which is sin according to his religion, no matter if islam or jewism is not true religion that sincere follower will be in heavens.

sin or crime is , that if you think or convinced by certain things that religion A is true and you revealed this thing while practising religion B, and you didnt trasnformed to true religion what you think or believe is true , then certainly you will be in hell to burn

The degree of punishment will be commensurate with one's sin against the light which one has received.
One good passage that indicated degrees of punishment is Luke 12:47-48: "That servant who know his master's will and does not get ready or does not do what his master wants will be BEATEN WITH MANY BLOWS. But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be BEATEN WITH FEW BLOWS. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked". Other verses on this issue include MAT 10:15; 16:27; Rev. 20:12,13; 22:12.
Jesus affirmed that the wicked "will go away to ETERNAL punishment, but the righteous to ETERNAL life" (Mat 25:460

All people are accountable to God whether they have “heard about Him” or not. The Bible tells us that God has clearly revealed Himself in nature (Romans 1:20) and in the hearts of people (Ecclesiastes 3:11). The problem is that the human race is sinful; we all reject this knowledge of God and rebel against Him (Romans 1:21-23). Apart from God's grace, God would give us over to the sinful desires of our hearts, allowing us to discover how useless and miserable life is apart from Him. This He does for those who reject Him (Romans 1:24-32).
In reality, it is not that some people have not heard about God. Rather, the problem is that they have rejected what they have heard and what is readily seen in nature. Deuteronomy 4:29 proclaims, “But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.” This verse teaches an important principle: everyone who truly seeks after God will find Him. If a person truly desires to know God, God will make Himself known.
The problem is, “there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God” (Romans 3:11). People reject the knowledge of God that is present in nature and in their own heart, and instead decide to worship a “god” of their own creation. It is foolish to debate the fairness of God sending someone to hell who never had the opportunity to hear the Gospel of Christ. People are responsible to God for what God has already revealed to them. The Bible says that people reject this knowledge, and therefore God is just in condemning them to hell.
Instead of debating the fate of those who have never heard, we, as Christians, should be doing our best to make sure that they hear. We are called to spread the Gospel throughout the nations (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8). The fact that we know people reject the knowledge of God revealed in nature must motivate us to proclaim the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. Only through accepting the Gospel of God’s grace through the Lord Jesus Christ can people be saved from their sins and rescued from an eternity apart from God in hell.
If we assume that those who never hear the Gospel are granted mercy from God, we will run into a terrible problem. If people who never hear the Gospel are saved…we should make sure that no one ever hears the Gospel. The worst thing we could do would be share the Gospel with a person and have him or her reject it. If that were to happen, he or she would be condemned. People who do not hear the Gospel must be condemned, or else there is no motive for evangelism. Why run the risk of people possibly rejecting the Gospel and condemning themselves – when they were previously saved because they had never heard the Gospel?

The Bible says that the only way to heaven is through Jesus. So, based on your question, a person would not go to heaven, regardless of how good they have been if it is not based on the method Jesus taught.

we can never be good enough on our own merits to go to Heaven. Accepting Jesus as Savior is the only way

According to Christians:YES!
It doesn't matter if they did good in their life.If they don't accept Jesus as their savior they will burn in hell for the eternity without a chance of even talking to god to try to defend or explain themselves....( and that applies to other religions as well)
Pathetic ,right?

ONLY GOD decides. There are levels of heaven and you may not go to the highest level - but you are going to have to be evil to be put away from God.
