legally you only need a few hundred at most to branch off of an existing religion. You would file under the parent religions 'other' category. You cannot start completely new religions in the united states or anywhere legally and get tax exempt status. You can call yourself whatever you want but if you get big FBI will investigate you and send in spies to make sure you do not conflict with any laws et al.

What exactly do you mean? Are you asking how many people have to follow it for it to be a legaly recognised religion?

I'm not sure about in the UK, but I do know that if more than 10,000 people claim to be members of the same religion on a national census, it is printed as an option in the next one.

Only yourself. In sociology there something called Sheiliaism. It's where you take all the beliefs you want and make a hodge podge of your own beliefs. You pick and choose what you like and get rid of what you don't.

Yourself at least - but more people to be disciples or congregation are immediately necessary if the foundation is to have any worthwhile meaning or result.
