I am not sure why you are using a flat iron on straight hair but back to your question...try using a leave in conditioner made for fine hair. I suggest you get something that you spray on since it will be easier to distribute then something you put in your hand and try to finger through. One of the best that I have found for fine, dry hair is Biolage's leave in conditioner.

Okay, you've gotten some bad answers so far. The problem is not that you're using too much conditioner, but not the right kind, and you're also styling it TO DEATH.
Heat damages your hair, and when you using heat styling tools (like a blow dryer or a flat iron), you increase breakage. What you need to do is find a styling lotion that you can use during your styling to help protect your hair. My favorite is "got2be crazy sleek" flat iron and blow dry lotion. Spray some into your hands, and work through damp, towel dried hair. Blow dry. They, I'd spray a little more and work it through your ends, where you've got the breakage happening. This won't repair your hair, but it can help prevent further damage.
Onto conditioner. You need to find an intensive repairing conditioner. One of my favorites is Aussie's 3 minute miracle (get the "Deep" and not the regular). Wash your hair as normal, condition lightly and rinse. THEN, work the 3 Minute Miracle through the lower half of your hair, not towards the roots. If your ends are suffering the breakage, this is where you should really concentrate the product. Feel free to leave it in longer than 3 minutes!
Another thing that's going to help is regular haircuts. Getting the dead and broken ends out of your hair is going to really change the way your hair looks at feels. Cutting even half a centimeter off your hair can make it look like an entirely new style, and it really helps to keep your ends healthy.
I know EXACTLY what you're going through. I had the same problem for the longest time, and this is what I do. I get compliments on my hair alot. GOOD LUCK!

Only wash your hair about every other day, use a light leave in conditioner that you can spray in prior to brushing/combing. Your hair needs some oils and washing daily strips it. Using the flat iron and blow dryer everyday is terrible for you hair and causes alot of damage. Also, for split ends, get a trim every 3-4 weeks or as needed. If you get trims regularly, they can just cut off 1/8" rather than having to take alot off to get rid of damage. Be proactive with your hair.

Leave it greasy! That's your boby's way of conditioning your hair! A great way to disguise they oiliness is to wear it up or covered by a bandana.
