Police can enter premises without a warrant in a number of different situations. Examples include:-
deal with a breach of the peace or prevent it
enforce an arrest warrant
arrest a person in connection with certain offences
recapture someone who has escaped from custody
save life or prevent serious damage to property.
Apart from when they are preventing serious injury to life or property, the police must have reasonable grounds for believing that the person they are looking for is on the premises.
Police in the UK do not use "maise" (I think you mean mace) they carry CS spray & would only use it as a last resort.

Uncle fester is correct, powers of entry by the police in UK are wide and very rarely require a warrant.Usually warrants are obtained for drugs or stolen property searchs. In thirty years police service I was only involved in adozen searchs where a warrant was necessary, they are used extensively in USA though.

yes if they have what are termed reasonable grounds that an offence has been committed and or a suspect is on the premises. One of the things they have to show is that the investigation would be impaired if it was delayed whilst a warrant was obtained.

UK law, No officer may enter your property without a search warrant. IF you were sprayed with maise and you can proof it, i think you have a strong case for compensation. Seek legal advise

Fight it in court. Not the street. It will only get you arrested. If you suspect it was an illegal search check with an attorney.

I would say its very debatable.
IF they say they SUSPECT a villain has just come in and is a danger to the public, then yes they willl come in without a warrant as it would be inappropriate to wait until the red tape has been done.

If you have proof of this, these officers are in for some serious trouble, maybe even be charged with federal civil rights violations.
