Professional clowns (I am one) each have their own "look"
There are three basic types of clown. Auguste, which has the white around the mouth and eyes, whiteface, which or course is all white and character which can be a hobo or hippie clown or whatever you imagine.
Although clown faces are not actually "patented" that I know of, it is considered really bad form to copy another clown's exact look. You can borrow an eye design here or a muzzle design there and that is cool.

I have never registered anywhere but have always used the same clown face for about 15 years.I have never painted it on to an egg either.

Different faces or not, Clowns scare the heeby jeebies out of me. We have to keep the DVD of 'IT' turned round so I can't see the clowns face. Sad but true.

No you don't have to be different. But it's always better to create your own individual look, that way you are more comfortable.
