its nasty but hydrogen peroxide and baking soda brush your teeth before going to bed so that residual can whiten teeth overnight. peroxide is the active ingredient in most tooth whitening systems

That would be peroxide. If you look at the expenive whiteners available at the store, most include peroxide. For most people, this is scary, so they mix it with water. That is ok, but not needed. Just use straight peroxide, 2-3 times a day. And dont worry if the fuzzies make your gums a little white, that's just from the fizzing action, and it will go away.

Invest in a Sonicare toothbrush (I found one over the holidays at Wal-Mart for $40.00- they usually run a little higher than that) and use baking soda. Dampen the brush and place directly in the baking soda and brush (follow up with an FDA approved toothpaste). The Sonicare toothbrush does a great job- your teeth feel better than they do when using an ordinary toothbrush. Even after one use, you notice a difference in color. Please be aware that some medications can cause teeth to darken and no amount of brushing will change that.
