I have scanned and image that i drew out, now i want to create seperate layers of each segmant of the drawing. i used the magnetic laso to outline the shapes but im not sure how to create a layer out of it.

Is there any way you can use Illustrator CS2? The "Live Trace" function in it would be ideal.

Besides that... 1st - make a copy of your original layer - so you don't lose it- by right clicking on the layer and select "Duplicate Layer".

There are a few ways to do it... Tuila's is the easiest.

It may also help you to make a path of your selection from the paths menu.

in the layers palette
double click the scanned image until the lock disappears
it will become layer 0
then hit the little arrow on the palette (right side) or right click on the existing layer and duplicate layer
then erase what you dont want on each layer

repeat until you are done doing whatever you are doing

Hit command J and it will put your selected piece onto a new layer. Make sure you are in RGB or CMYK, not Index color, or it won't work.

Layer ---> Add new layer. Then you can do all the lasso-ing on that layer.
