well i think that making them do the dishes or gather all the laundry and sort it takin the trash out and possibly even sweeping the kitchen or bathroom floors(small areas) are all withi+n reason obviously not all of the above but i would give them each a couple of those a week i think chores are a very good thing my 6 year old boy is responsible for clearing the dishes at the dinner table and putting them in the sink and bringing the laundry down from the bathroom to our laundry area and i think it gives them a sense of responsibility of course he is not like all 6 yr olds and loves to run the vacuum altho he dont do a great job i let him anyways good luck

My children (9 and 12) are responsible for helping with dishes (actually washing--we have no dishwasher), putting their laundry away, maintaining their bedrooms and shared bathroom, and dusting and vacuuming. My older son is learning to cook and to use the washing machine. Additionally, they both help with yardwork and my oldest is learning to drive the riding lawnmower. (Before I am attacked for this, the blade is "up" and not in use while he is driving, we are in the yard with him, he is operating it at a slow rate of speed, and he has driven his grandfathers trucks and tractors on the farm where he has spent a lot of his time.)

Any chore that won't cause him bodily harm. I wouldn't let my 10 yr old boy mow the grass, even though I did at that age.
