If I went to a mail box to post a letter but I got there when the mailman had unlocked the mail box and emptied all the mail into his bag. Should I drop my letter in the mail box or give it to the mailman.

the correct proceedure is to put it in the box it protects the postperson. If the letter goes missing in transit the sender would be asked how it was posted then the onus would be on the postperson to prove it had been treated properly. its not jobsworth just self protection.

You give it straight to the mailman. I think you would get a weird look from the mailman if you put it in the box. Either that, or he'd shut the box, & assume you could wait for the next collection.

well you could drop it in the box, and give the mailman one, but he might not be that way inclined. If it was a femal postperson, then you could kill two birds with one stone, and drop it into her box...

I have been in that situation. I just give it to the mailman. He won't refuse because it will be one less for him to collect later.

He wont take it you have to wait till he's finished and locked it up. then he will come back next time and get it. ridiculous innit job worth hat for them
