Just tell yourself you are investing a little time now for a big chunk of your future. You have to be very mature to get ahead in life.
Do well in high school (30 minutes more work a day)= graduating on time (what if your were left behind, eek!?)

pick a college now= you can start taking some of those classes in high school= saved time and money later

do well in college = miss some but not all the fun parties

apply for scholarships = save money as in cha-ching!

graduate college = you get a little piece of paper that says people have to pay you a lot more than minimum wage= you get to eat AND have a life.

The alternative: work hard for 10 years or so at a nowhere job, then try to eke out a living while you support yourself raise a family and go to school (much harder, duh). Meanwhile, you catch an occasional glimpse of kids you went to school with who had all their ducks in a row all along. They'll be the ones in the nice cars driving to their nice house on their way from their good paying job. They have health insurance and you have a cavity. Your inspection sticker is due and you just missed the rent payment by 2 days, so there's an extra $20 late fee. You are overdrawn at the bank by $5 so they bounced 2 checks. That's another $25 each. Your cell phone will be cut off anytime now, so at least the bill collector can't wake you up again tonight. Don't you hate it when you can't get your 6 hours of sleep before going out to work 2 jobs?
If you don't have to take my advice, just remember - I like extra hot sauce with my Taco Supreme, and remember to smile when you say "Hi, welcome to Cici'sPizza!"

I think this is something we all go through. Sometimes I feel like we aren't ready for our current level of responsibility. I was ready for my senior year when I was about 25. I was more able to appreciate the seriousness and celebration of prom and graduation and why it would have been better for me to focus on my grades more.

That being said, set smaller goals, find little silly ways to reward yourself. Once you are behind it is easy to feel overwhelmed and give up. So break it down, do your most hated subject first, so you are not tired and ready to quit or be with friends and facing the worst. Save your easiest for last. Do a subject, take a break and move around. Watch the clock when you are starting to fade. Say ok, I want a break but I am going to bust butt for 15 minutes and if I get this done then I can take 30 minutes for a coke, snack and TV. And come back after 30 minutes. If you are having trouble with science, see if your local museums offer any homeschool classes that you could do with your lessons or maybe even instead of your lessons. Here in Houston our observatory offers 9 monthly classes that are 3 hours each for $125. That is only $4.50 per hour and it would give you a better education than you could get in any public school because they never have regular access to those telescopes and scientists. Look around for ways to make the history come more alive. See if there is a museum near you that would have something on your subject. Read about people who lived during that time. You might surprise your self with a new interest.

Also if you already have mastered what you are dealing with, move on. Homeschool is meant to have the flexibility to challenge you at your level. Talk to your mom or dad. See if you can't work something out so that if you can pass the final test with a high B or better you don't have to do the busy work and can move on. I bet that they would be ok with that.

Good Luck.

You may be unmotivated because you can't see an end or a reason to work hard. Look into a career or profession you are interested in pursuing and find out what it takes to get to that point. That may motivate you now to reach that goal in the end. Good luck!

You set yourself goals--long-term and short-term.

Then you set up a plan to accomplish those goals. You include in the plan things to do when you find yourself wanting to not follow your plan, self-imposed rewards and punishments. For example, if you know that, even though you've set it up so that you need to finish a section in a text per day to meet your goals, you are tempted to put it off, then plan in that you get to have 30 minutes of computer time after you get the work done and that you aren't allowed any computer time if you don't get it done. Things like that.

Above all, prioritizing and deciding that work comes first is probably the most important. You don't have to care about the work itself, find it fascinating or anything like that. But getting the work done is important, important enough to have it come before any free time.

I know how you feel. You know it all and you think that it's a waste of time. I always wait until the last minute too. I found that it helps when you really want to do something, make sure you can't. Say, you wanted to ride your bike. Chain it to something and give your mom/dad the lock key. If it's a combination lock, lock it up in a certain room of the house that only your parents have access to. Also, put yourself in a school like setting with nothing that can distract you, very much. Hope i helped

i used to be the same, but now i wish i had spent all my time studying properly! all i can advise is dont do too much at a time, read for 10 minutes, then get a 5 minutes break, study again for 20 minutes then get urself a 10 minutes break. Also only study a page a time, because i can guarentee the rest will just fall into ur short term memory and will be forgotten by the time u wake :)

Do you realize that you answered your own question. Don't take this the wrong way. You are lazy and a procrastinator. You know what needs to be done yet you do nothing until you have to. I know I was the same way from what I read here. Get off your butt, get things done so you have time for the things you want to do.

Get a timer, and set and hour on it. Do an hour of homework, and then take a fifteen minute break. Keep doing this, and you can get a lot done. But make sure you get the timer because otherwise you'll be looking at the clock every five minutes.

Talk to your teacher.Try planning a schedule of the things you have to do and reward yourself with something like when you have achieved a set goal..

Take up something that is more challenging, that you need to work at. Its more satisfying to accomplish something that's hard to do.
