My dentist recommends Plax for early stage gingivitis. Rinse thoroughly with it before brushing, soak your floss in the plax, floss your teeth, then brush your teeth and rinse with it again. The biggest favor you can do for yourself, if you smoke, STOP. Once I quit smoking, my gingivitis went away within a matter of a couple of weeks.

Listerine is very good. Be careful with hydrogen peroxide...it can throw off your normal environment of your mouth and cause irritation and soreness. Your dentist can also prescribe mouthrinses ro reduce plaque and gingivitis as well.
Keep brushing and flossing though. That is key
