Are you asking about the occupancy rules? Then yes, buying a home with a VA mortgage is doable, as long as you maintain your primary residence there. you can't, for instance, toss all of your belongings into storage and rent it out during the deployment, though.

No--only because you couldn't be present at closing. Unless you can give some one you really really trust power of attorney. Trust me though a VA loan isn't what it sounds, I tried for one and the civilian alternatives were much better. If its paying PMI your worried about just get two loans, one for 20% and one for 80%, then you won't have to pay PMI.
