my hairdresser does hair for a lot of African American girls, she's really good and all she uses is a blow dryer. But I hear her all the time telling girls that they can use a good flat iron once in while to straighten their hair. I've tried it and it works real good. (I'm not African American, I'm Dominican but I have to straighten my hair cuz it's REAL curly). It's important though to make sure your hair is dry when u use the flat iron so that your hair will not get damaged.

put a perm in then get some wrap lotion that foams when you put it on then wrap it and sit under the dryer whet is completely dry i mean completely then comb it out and it should look as strait as the avatar if not lots and lots of lat ironing but the thing is you will have to part it thin for you to get it the way you want it to be i really hope that this helps oh you don't want to flat iron it to much because heat Can really damage the hair

good luck hope that this helps
