Of course, traditionally the guy proposes. But I know a few couples where the woman proposed and the guy was thrilled. I think it is more common now for the woman to propose, another way society has changed over the past few decades. Naturally, in either case, both halves of the couple should be ready! The only thing that requires special consideration is how to handle the typical "engagement ring" issue. One friend told me she didn't give him a ring when she proposed and he bought her one the next day, when he said yes. :)

I'm old-fashioned, but I think the guy should propose. Females seem to know sooner when they are ready to marry a guy. Guys seem to need more time. If a woman proposes and the guy isn't sure he is ready, that could make him uncomfortable. Now if 2 people are in love and they've been together for a couple years and there has been no talk of marriage, then it would be tempting as the girl to say "well, are we going to get married or what?". Anything else from a female appears, at least to me, as desperate. I think women should let the guy do the proposing. That's just me though.

A guy should propose. That's how it always been. It would just be different if a girl asked the guy.

I think the guy should propose to the female. But it is a new millennium so I guess anything is possible these days. But I like the old fashion way better.

For me personally, a guy proposing has much more appeal simply because I'm more attracted to guys who are forward, self-confident, and know what they want.

It is customary for a guy to ask a girl. It is what we have been taught. It is part of the socialization process that we are subjected to as part of a male driven culture. I am sure that some women ask men and that some marriages are arranged. I think these cases are less common than the "norm".

Since guys are usually the ones that are more commitment phobic and it is tradition - if they want marry the woman they have to propose.

Traditionally it is the man that proposes but there is nothing wrong with a woman doing it.

Umm HELLO...its definately the guys job to do that...i mean if the girl wants to be the one to propose thats cool too...but I think its more romantic coming from the guy bc it means they are ready to commit instead of the girl backin them into a wall to get married and start a family
