As previously stated, MS is a degenerative autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the myelin surrounding nerve fibers of the central nervous system. These areas of "demyelination" cause reduced signal flow along their paths, causing the various symptoms of MS. After the myelin is destroyed, hard, plaque-like scars (called scleroses) form over the areas of demyelination, thus the name multiple sclerosis (many scars).
There are various treatments available today; the relapsing forms of the disease can be treated with interferons or synthetic proteins which mimic myelin. Some of the progressive forms of the disease can be treated by cancer drugs (aka Novantrone). While the treatments can lessen the effects of the disease, reduce active lesions, and lengthen the time between attacks, they are not restorative or regenerative to nerve tissues. They are merely preventative.

It sure looks like it, doesn't it, as in your profile you're saying: "I smoke 10 j's a day and I'll snort anything and everything". Start of the slippery slide-ride once you start questioning your core values, as that leads to questioning everything and sends you into OCD analysis paralysis. Truth is it is a matter of bad luck if it affects you adversely; higher probability too if you're only just holding yourself together emotionally when you start.
