sell me 16 at any one time. I paid for 16 walked away for ten seconds then returned and bought another 16! She said it was the law. Now am I right to think she is being silly ?

yes it is a bit strange apparently u cant killl urself with 16 or less but like u say u can easily go back and get the rest it,s a good thing i s,pose but uf some1 does want to top themselves then as i sais b4 u can easily get another packet

The law states that "paracetamol can only be purchased in multiples of 8" so actually you could have purchased 24 or 32, but she was quite correct that 20 is illegal and she would be liable for a heavy fine if she had been caught selling them to you.

Specifically, I believe the legislation in question would be a combination of The Prescription only Medicines (Human Use) Amendment Order 1997 and The Medicines(Sale or Supply)(Miscellaneous Provisions) Amendment (No 2) Regulations 1997. However, neither of these make it illegal to buy more than two packs unless it was over 100 tablets, which requires a prescription... that said, there are "guidelines" in place which advises retailers not to sell large numbers... mainly due to all the crazies ODing... Further to your question... No you couldn't force them to sell you more, you do not have a legal right to purchase anything from their shop, they allow you to buy from them... Also as conscientious retailers it wouldn't be deemed right for them to sell more than the recommended to you, Any policeman worth his salt should know that!

Lol, I know its so wierd. When i go shopping with my mum, i have to go after her in the queue and put through another batch of paracetamol, when we are both clearly together. The shop staff must think its stupid too, but a law's a law. And if you think about it, what else can they do to stop people buying a hundred!

Some people are actually addicted to paracetamol, and could take an overdose, in Ireland your allowed to buy one packet ,we are not restricted to amounts in a pack. I think it's a bit dumb because you could visit as many pharmacies as you wanted to and buy them that way .It's probably Brussels sticking it's nose in again

It's another instance of the nanny state telling us we cannot do something just in case we decide to o/d on the stuff.
We used to be able to buy jars containing 100 of the little blighters. But, think about it - on an adult dose of maximum 8 tabs per day, the jar would last 12.5 days.
If you have a headache lasting this long, then go to the doctor!

no it is the law only chemist can sell you more
I have worked in two shops & both only sold 16 at a time

She was wrong - you can buy two packs of 16 in one transaction, but no more than that. You can buy more in a second transaction if you say it's for someone else.
