Best Western in Redondo should be around that price and it is right by the water. Otherwise for that price it would be tough to go close to the water.

Not gonna find much for that price.
I agree with the pervious poster. I would check out a Santa Monica hotel like the comfort INN. dont bother with the fancier hotels they start at like 150 a night and go upwards of 500 or 600.

Depends on what type of place you are looking for but last year I stayed at the cadillac hotel right on venice beach. It is a "no frills" hotel but there is a great hooka bar right next door that serves excellent food and drinks. The url is : http://thecadillachotel.com/ Their rates are from $95-149 for a suite.

Give Santa Monica a try. It's beautiful there. The key is to stay somewhat outside of town though because hotels are cheaper there. When you want to go downtown, just drive :-)

Stay at the Chateau Marmount on Sunset in Hollywood, it is cool and hip!
Might even bump into a celebrity!

yeah.. LA is huge so anywhere you stay, your still in LA... try sunset or santamonica for the goodies... or even wilshire...
that is if you plan on staying at your hotel a lot and like the scene from there... but if its just for sleeping purposes (no scene) go to koreantown... haha.. they have nice hotels for cheap...
but since your on vaca... i suggest the pop places...
