Matthew 24:42-44.........Keep on the watch, therefore, because YOU do not know on what day YOUR Lord is coming. “But know one thing, that if the householder had known in what watch the thief was coming, he would have kept awake and not allowed his house to be broken into.  On this account YOU too prove yourselves ready, because at an hour that YOU do not think to be it, the Son of man is coming.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-6........Now as for the times and the seasons, brothers, YOU need nothing to be written to YOU. For YOU yourselves know quite well that Jehovah’s day is coming exactly as a thief in the night.  Whenever it is that they are saying: “Peace and security!” then sudden destruction is to be instantly upon them just as the pang of distress upon a pregnant woman; and they will by no means escape.  But YOU, brothers, YOU are not in darkness, so that that day should overtake YOU as it would thieves, for YOU are all sons of light and sons of day. We belong neither to night nor to darkness. So, then, let us not sleep on as the rest do, but let us stay awake and keep our senses.

Jesus told us that the generation alive when Israel is reborn will still be alive when He returns. He also told us to look out for various signs. There are other events He didn't speak about, because He presupposed His Jewish listeners would already know certain end-time events. Here's a short list of what has happened, and what is still to come:

1) Israel has been re-established as one country (instead of 2, as it was from after Solomon's death through the last diaspora) and the regathering of the people has been going on since that time. See Ezekial 37.

2) Jesus' parable of the fig tree is recorded at Matthew 24:32-35. (The fig tree is the ancient symbol of Israel.) He tells us that when Israel becomes alive again, the end is near. Israel announced about a year ago that, for the first time in nearly 2,000 years, there are more Jews living there than anywhere else in the world.

3) Ezekiel 38 and 39 tells us about an invasion of Israel lead by Russia and Iran, and joined by other Muslim nations such as Libya and Egypt. Russia and Iran have formed a pact for the first time in all of recorded history; news reports suggest Israel, the U.S. and England will pre-emptively strike Iran within months. This may be the catalyst needed to provoke Russia into action first. Ezekiel 38:16 tells us this will all happen in the "latter days," a.k.a. the end times.

4) Jerusalem and Israel will be the cause of international disagreements and wars in the end times. Other nations will seek to take some of Israel's land away. (Zechariah 12:1-5 and Psalm 83:4). This has been fulfilled for the first time in history.

5) Jesus tells us that the generation that sees the re-establishment of Israel and the first "birth pang" ("nation rising against nation," which was WWI and WWII) will still be alive when He returns. A Biblical generation is 70 years. Add 70 to 1948 (re-establishment of Israel); that's 2018, from which you have to subtract 7 (the Tribulation), which is 2011. Then add 70 to 1945 (the end of the world wars), and subtract 7, which is 2008. We don't know if either of these years are when the Tribulation will start or not. It's not important -- what IS important is that everyone see this is NOT a far-off event. We have very little time left before the Father commands the Son to begin the judgements described in Revelation.

the world isnt coming to and end. if it does, itll be millions of years form now. Their is more to life than just than us, animals, and plants. Even if an ateroid hit, people would still live, and the world wouldnt end. this whole idea that christian people made was more of a scare tactic and depression talking from the disciples and what not. Why the hell would your God want to destory us or even let something else destory us? doesnt he love you? you say things happen for a reason because they are planned. no, nothing is planned. Not even God himself has the power to make that happen. trust me its been attempted alot by others than you God. So dont worry, the only way youll die is of old age, car accident, or some one sets off a nuke in your back yard. Just live day by day, and when you die, the world still goes on. death isnt the end and neither is life the beginning.

If I remember correctly, the last prophet was Jesus. I'm getting this from a couple verses in the New Testament where it says beware of the false prophets, they will come in my name, and decieve many.

The world (as we know it) won't come to an end until a radical Musilm Jihadist with nuclear capability decides that the time is right for the great Holy War.

I hope it doesn't happen before I finish school.

the end of the world has been "fixing to happen" for the last 1000 years.I think you shouldn't worry so much about it. I know I was so terrified of it as a kid I was afraid to sleep at night. Then I got an education...
