I guarantee you they don't know about this verse:
Ezekiel 23:20
There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.
Or this one:
Psalm 137:8-9
O Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction,
happy is he who repays you
for what you have done to us-
he who seizes your infants
and dashes them against the rocks.
And they probably skip over all of Numbers 31, for fear of reading about the Israelites killing all the midianite men, women, and boys and keeping the virgins for themselves, at God's command. No, they don't want to focus on the bad, icky, ugly things, only the happy, fluffy, frou-frou things like...oh, I dunno, that rainbow promise God made after drowning everyone in the world, including children and unborn babies; or that guy he sent to die on the cross because he can only forgive people AFTER killing someone and shedding their blood. Yes, God sure is full of love, isn't he? Where do I fill out my membership form for this gruesome little fan club of his?

Most people think that Shakespeare is good literature, but there's a a lot of bad stuff in it. I mean, there's a lot of death, murder, raping, killing, and destruction, as well. How can his plays be good with all the evil things written within their pages?
That makes about as much sense as your assertion about the Bible.

I am a Christian - you would probably call me a "fundie" lol. And yes, I know about all that bad stuff in the Bible. Worse stuff even than you have mentioned. It is an accurate description of the human experience. It explains why a just God must judge the world.
It is a good book because it describes things accurately, condemns it, and shows us the cure.
I consider a medical encyclopedia to be a good one if it can describe my symptoms, identify the problem, and show me a solution (not that I spend much time in medical encyclopedias, just drawing a parallel).
EDIT:
I notice that some people on ANSWERS confuse Christianity with Victorian morality. In the sense that it is wrong to talk about sex, wrong to describe certain parts of the body. That has nothing to do with Christianity, just with certain periods in history.
Even the New testament has some fairly earthy language when translated literally. Language that possibly wouldn't be accepted on ANSWERS, because of our cultural context. For instance, when Paul talks about his religious background in Phillipians chapter 3, he says something like: "Now that I have Christ, my religious works I practiced aren't worth sh...." Although the King James version translates it as "dung" if I remember right.

Dea gazriel, Your right, there are stories of death and destruction and sinful actions. the difference is that the BIble, unlike the television and Movies, does not glorifie them and make them glamerous, it rather speaks of them and there consequences. there is a big difference. the BIble show us that sin is wrong and that it has consequences, it shows this because God loves us enough to show us the consequences of our actions. Is that really a bad thing? i dont think so, I belive it is very caring and honest.
For example, God has given us the Ten Commandments, every time we lie, steal, look with lust, use Gods name in vain and blaspheme, we offend an infinately Holy God, who because he is infinate, our sins take on infinate qualtiy also. because ofour sins, The Bible warns there are consequences (hell). but the good news is that Jesus christ suffred and died on the cross for your sins, you broke the Law and Jesus paid your fine. If you will repent (turn from sin) and place your faith and trust in jesus, God will forgive you and grant you the gift of everlasting life. If it is true, the way to find out is by repenting and trusting him. You have nothing to lose, but your soul. Our soul is of infinate importanc, sop I hope you will seriously consider the Gospel.
God Bless
Apostle

What kind of question is that?
For example:
Let's take an American History book and take out all the bad stuff like wars, battles, crimes against humanity. Oh goody, our country is perfect. Nothing bad has ever happened to our country since we didn't add them to the book. Uh, no. Why do we add them? Because it is what actually happened.
Just because the Bible talks about sex, violence, etc... does not mean God condones it.

The Book is tells true stories of life. And bad things happen in life. The whole point is that God is with you through all of it.
Some Christians probably enjoy reading the Bible will all that stuff it in....its almost like a good soap opera.

Let me make one thing clear. You are not a god or Deity. Just a wanna bee. You are no more a god, than I am a plant. Due me a favor and change your screen name. You might be somebody else's god, but your not mine.
The things you mentioned are of a historical and cultural in nature. Do you know of any society that does not have the same crimes and bad reports?
It is called the Good Book, because it contains the Gospel or Good News about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
You cannot save yourself, repent and receive Jesus into your life.

Some of the "bad stuff" is to show what is bad.
Secondly the things that you say are bad are not bad in the eyes of God. Many people take one line of text and create a scandal taking it totally out of context.
Before you make unfounded judgements study the complete chapter, or book if necessary to decipher its meaning.
You seem to hunger for the truth.
may God give it to you.

The Bible includes those evil things to show us how not to act and what God did to those who lived that way and did not live according to His instruction.
God told Moses that He wanted to have all of the evil people that did not obey Him be killed off by the ones who did obey them because of this...
2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness
But the people got tired of killing those unrighteous people and decided to live among them inspite of what God told them to do, so it is the disobedience of man back then towards God's instruction to rid the world of all of it's evil, choosing not to kill them, that is why there is the mix of evil and good that we have today.
So what does God say to us about being around those who do not follow His word?
2 Thessalonians 3:14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.
