It's possible the artist went too deep and you will have your tattoo raised up forever. that happened with my first tattoo, and the guy was experienced and had a great reputation. Unfortunately you can have permanate scaring from this mistake, and I do.

the skin around the area of the tatto will normally swell and redden. It might happen more in certain areas then others. If it looks like it is getting infected then go to the doctor.
Make sure that you treat the tattoo as recommended because it is an open sore and is prone to infection, or the ink can bleed out. If you got the tat done at a reputable shop I would go back and ask...
But again swelling and redness is normal for the first week. And the heavy lines normally can stay raised for a long time or permenantly.
Lastly one of the other responders said not to use ointment and said that the tat need to bleed out... ummmm... no. I would do more research on this. to me if the tat is bleeding it is losing color. It should stop bleeding the first day. it is true that you should not use antibacterial ointment, but I used a&d just fine, but I would definately moisturize the tatoo before a couple days goes by... and with my skin aquafor is just like water... nothin.

Ok well it is a fresh tattoo. Hopefully your not putting any ointments on it, If you are Stop using them, its irritating your skin, even lotion. A fresh tattoo has to bleed out all the inks, and plasma. Its very important not to over treat a fresh tattoo.

For the first couple days you should only be washing your tattoo with a mild antibacterial soap (dial) twice a day...and patting it dry.

After the first couple days you can begin to use AQUAPHOR (can be found in any lotion aisle at the drugstore)
A littel goes a long way, use a light amount enough to have a small layer over the tattoo.Use this until your tattoo has finished peeling, and healing up.

Now you can use a Non fragrence, non alcohol Lotion (Cruel or Lubriderm)

Dont ever use A&D or Anti-boitic ointments!!!

It's going to be irritated, don't worry. DO NOT TOUCH IT. I couldn't help itch a little bump I got on mine and when it healed the color came out poorly in that spot. Keep some Tattoo Goo on it, wash it very gently every day and slap it when it itches, don't scratch. It'll be at least a week before it settles and it may do a lot of weird stuff in the interim. I was advised never to use Vaseline or anything with Zinc in it (like Neosporin) because it can damage the design.

maximum probable, you're overdoing the moisturizer (that's unscented, staggering?). it rather is a hassle-loose mistake. i comprehend I did that & have been given the comparable reaction. It extremely itched! Now that i pass with a miles less-is-extra ordinary, the tattoos heal up in basic terms besides if not extra advantageous & the itching is trivial. shop the exterior - no longer the ineffective flaky bits, however the recent pores and skin below - feeling like the encompassing pores and skin & you would be large. it is doubly probable if that's the exterior around the tattoo and not the tattoo itself. that's hassle-free to unfold the moisturizer over to pores and skin that would not desire it.

My new tattoo had same little red bumps. Just skin irritation. But watch for red blotches or signs of infections.

Razor burn or reaction to ointment..

Are you using A&D ointment. It is actually a diaper rash cream but works great on tattoos. Just make sure you do not get the kind with zinc oxide. I think it is hypoallergenic.

yeah, razorburn or too much ointment. only put it on the tattoo and clean once a day with antibacterial soap before applying ointment.

it's normal when you have an allergic reaction. what i recommend is getting some hydrocortisone, which you can get at any drug store, and apply it daily. you can put it on yout tatt as well. I have 27, so i pretty much know about this.

I would guess maybe you are allergic to the metal/nickel in the needle and your skin is just reacting to that.

Call the place where you got the tattoo and seek their advice.
