Then let them lose and go home. What are you affraid of? I guess you are too young to remember Jaguars running in NASCAR back in the '50's aren't you.

Hmmmm.... what a beehive that's been stirred up. From an emotional standpoint,I'm against it but from an objective standpoint,I'm willing to give them their due and let them compete because NASCAR isn't North American Stock Car Auto Racing (although I wonder if it shouldn't be....) but National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing and Toyotas are built in the United States (even though they are designed overseas and the profits from the sale of every Toyota goes overseas to a company that has cost a lot of Americans their jobs).
I don't think they will enjoy a lot of success initially but over time I'm afraid because of their deep pockets,I'm afraid they will probably come to dominate the series.
I think NASCAR is shooting themselves in the foot by ignoring the people who attend the races, buy the merchandise and support the series with dollars and loyalty. In the short term, the money flow from Toyota's entry will be a boost but in the long run I think the series will decline in popularity because it dilutes the traditional Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge rivalry.
The only caveat could be the introduction of a 'villain' much like 'professional wrestling'. As long as they don't have TOO much success, they could play the role of the villain and it could become like a shakespeare play with protagonists/antagonists and a 'moral to the story' when the good guys win the championship even though the bad guys won a race or two here or there.
If this mushrooms though and you have BMW wanting in and then Honda wanting in and then Porsche wanting in and then Nissan wanting in then we'll have begun to slide down a slippery slope into an international GT series. The loyal fans will abandon the series and the dollars from merchandising will dry up because the owners/fans of some of those other brands don't spend the kind of money to show their loyalty to a team/brand that today's NASCAR fan does.
NASCAR should be careful...
On a side note, the one change I'd make to make NASCAR more realistic is to mandate that the cars use stock body panels. They can continue to leave the cars as is under the skin but this would force the automakers to make cars that could run at speed ala the Dodge Daytona,Torino Talladega and you'd also be able to recognize the cars without the paint job. As it is,because they all use a common template, the Dodge Charger particularly looks nothing like the stock Dodge Charger.

Yes the American Made cars are just what we are used to. If NASCAR doesn't expand and grow....it will die.
Toyota will pump some new excitement into the mix. If they cant win races, we will be the first to know.
Toyota is building all engines the same with no driver or owner input. That may be a good or a bad thing.
You are right better gas mileage only matters on the street, not at the track.
Ask this question again at the end of the season...
LETS GO RACING!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a long and drawn out debate should Toyota be in NASCAR? But lets face it folks, Toyota is more of an American Manufatured car than Chevy, Dodge or Ford has been in many years.
Just wait, Honda will be coming into the sport next, They just want to see what happens with Toyota. On the International circuit Toyta and Honda have been duking things out for years and have plenty of horse power to compete against Detroit 3. They are here, and there isn't anything you or I can do keep them from coming.
It will only benefit NASCAR to go international. Imagine this, NASCAR opened offices world wide and has local series with in the perspective country/countries. Then at the end of the season all of the series winners coming to America and competing in a 10 race battle for the World Championship Cup. Sticking to current rules and spec requirements set by NASCAR.

No. they received't win until eventually next season, and through then it will be the sprint Cup sequence, no longer the Nextel Cup sequence. And, for what it is well worth, the only component "Toyota" about the Toyota's is the call. each and everything else is American designed and made. they're run by ability of TRD in California. The engines were designed there depending on the perfect helpful homes of the tremendous 3 V8's. They use a Ford 9" rear end, and an American made 4 speed. That being reported, it insects me too. yet they're as American as the different crew.

It isn't a question of "should" its a question of money. Toyota has the money so they're there. And as for mr no name making the comment about Jaguar's being in the cup...Yes there were foreign cars in NASCAR in the 50's and they won that year and Big Bill France hasn't allowed any more foreign manufacturer's since. But Brian came along and got greedy so it happened. Also you have to remember that Toyota is also in IRL, Formula one, NHRA, Rally and many other racing events. If they dont win this year it will be a shock. They (Toyota) invested alot in NASCAR and, trust me, it will pay off. So I quit watching NASCAR.

Yes, YEs , YES!
What do you mean by taking out the fun? Personally I think they will make the big 3 better. What's wrong with a little competition? I listen to nascar radio and many announcers like Dave Moody belive that Toyota is good for the sport. Owners like Jack Rousch need to keep their traps shut. Complaining about how much $$$ Toyota has invested. Rousch is upset because he is no longer top dog. Toyota builds quality engines..just look how well they did in the Truck series. Maybe they won't have a driver in the top ten, but in a few years I see 3 or 4 chase drivers driving Toyota's

You can win, with a bigger gas tank, and I don't see why Toyota can't come into NASCAR Nextel Cup. It might make it more exciting, they might dominate, or they might struggle, but there is only one way to find out what they will do. Besides Toyota is the Truck Series

Why should Nascar discriminate against the name "Toyota." Just because they have an Asian name they shouldn't be allowed in Nascar? So what if there is a driver with an obvious Asian name lets call him/her "Ming." Are you going to tell this "Ming" person they cannot driver in Nascar because its an "American" sport? Where are you going to draw the line?
If you feel this way about Nascar, you must not be a baseball fan... Look at all the Asian, Latino, and African Americans in baseball... That is "America's Past time" should we deny them the right to play baseball in America?
I love America, and everything about it, but what makes America, America are the rights we allow people... That is what this country was founded on...
I am sorry to say but its narrow minded people like yourself that give Nascar the "redneck" stereotype... Come on, what are you really scared of? They have below average drivers, and who knows if they will be around in a few years...
Since when do you not win races on better gas mileage? Do you remember Tony (I make my own rules) Stewart at Kansas last year? The whole field was out of gas except him... But you do not have to worry about Toyota getting 40 miles/gallon...
Anyway there is noway they are not going to allow Toyota in Nascar... just deal with it and keep an open mind... its going to be ok, it does not mean that the Japanese are taking over our world!
23 days until the opener! Go 24!

Let's put it this way - I'll buy a Toyota or Dodge which was manufactured in the US before I buy a Ford Fusion (manufactured anywhere) or a Monte Carlo manufactured in Canada.
Ford and Chevy are American companies that are giving jobs to foreign countries. Toyota, a Japanese company, is giving Americans jobs. I'll stand behind anyone helping our economy and giving people decent jobs any day (an no, Wal-Mart and McDonalds are not livable wage jobs).

Two of the American cars in NASCAR are actually made in Mexico (Ford Fusion) and Oshawa, Ontario, Canada (Chevy Impala SS). The Dodge Avenger is made in Sterling Heights, Michigan. The Toyota Camry is made in Georgetown, Ky.
So really 2 American made and 2 foreign made car models are in NASCAR. The two Highest profile American models being the foreign made.
