This confuses me because Jesus says "Ask in my name and you WILL receive." So if you take that literally, then you pray for someone to be healed, it should happen. Even better if you have a group praying, and if they pray diligently until it happens. [Referring to "two or more in my name..." and the parable of the woman and the judge.]

To me, if you believe the Bible literally, then it seems pointless to add "if its your will" because Jesus already said it would be given to you.

Do we pray this because when it doesn't happen, we feel better because we say "well, it wasn't God's will"? If you have added this to your prayer before, tell me why.

So if the conclusion is that God only answers prayers when it is in our/his/everyone's best interest.... then was Jesus lying when he said "Ask in my name and you will receive"?

Lol, I love the fact that some people feel the need to list his or her credentials in order to make their point sound more convincing. In fact, you don't need any degrees to understand this, or even an IQ much above that of a 12 year old, really. Simple logic will suffice.

In Matthew 7:7, Jesus is quoted as saying:

"Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! "

Again, in Mark 11:24, he is quoted thus:

"Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."

This message is reiterated again and again in the Gospels. If you don't believe me, look up Mat 17:20, Mat 18: 19, Mat 21:21, Mark 9:23, Luke 1:37, and John 14:12-14.

So, when we look at all these scriptures, there are only two logical conclusions a person can come to: either Jesus did not actually say those things, or he lied. There are no "if" clauses in versus such as Mark 11:24. Ask ->Receive. That's the message. If someone tells you "mix orange juice and chlorox and you'll get kool-aid," you try it again and again and you never get kool-aid, the problem is not with you or your ingredients, it's with your informant. Either they lied to you, or they, themselves, were very, very misinformed.

If someone can't look at the evidence and come to that conclusion, then they are trapped in religious dogma and they have my pity... I wil be sure to pray for them.

Prayer closet?....So Jesus basically visited the synagogue to look on the decorations? The existence of Jesus isn't limited to the Bible by myself. ALL Catholics pray to God by myself interior the experience that God by myself is worshiped. Why cant you recognize that we Catholics are the comparable as you...a Christian? Do you have a enjoyed guy or woman who has handed on? Do you communicate with them even however you haven't any longer any thought no count if or no longer they are in Heaven, Hell or Purgatory? Do you ask them to look out for you. greater in specific do you worship them once you think of and talk to them? properly, neither do we Catholics worship Mary, the Saints or the Pope for that count.

As all good Fathers do.........God decides if our 'wish' is for the best or not. He knows what will come of the 'wish' in the future, and he knows if it is for a selfish reason. If he granted ALL wishes, all sports teams would WIN, and people who had not studied, etc. would get all 'A's! We all pray for different things.

It doesn't matter what words you use when praying because there is no one to answer them.
