My husband had this same problem so I know how you feel. After trying everything under the sun that didn't work, we finally went to the dermo and started him on Acutane. It is cautiously monitored by the dermo and it worked wonders!!! He hasn't had a problem since and he is 45 years old but he still has some scarring from it. I wouldn't mess around with all the other products out there, especially if it's causing him pain like it did my husband. I believe insurance also covers it. Hope this helps you!

He needs to wash his back better and it sounds like he really needs to exfoliate. St. Ives makes a facial scrub with apricot. It may hurt the first 2 or 3 times, but help him exfoliate his back with it gently, rubbing your fingers in circular motions all across his back with the scrub. Because it's all-natural, it shouldn't cause any adverse reactions with his skin, and the bits of apricot pitt lift the dead skin cells, allowing his pores to breath again. Rinse off the scrub with warm water, then with as cool water as he can tolerate, flash splash his back to constrict the pores again. If the acne doesn't start to go away on its own after a week of doing this once a day, see a dermatologist.

Nothing will clear acne once and for all, and don't fall into any product claiming that. My bf goes through similar breakout and has been using clearpores which has worked well for him.

Try using your face wash on his back.... make it the last thing he does before exiting the shower.
