Why is she loosing it now when it is soooo cold out? She is a golden retriever and is 9 months old. I dont understand, she has never lost this much hair before, and she is very healthy!

Goldens have an undercoat and a top coat. I would guess that she is losing her puppy coat.

The weather has been so messed up this winter that my German Shepherd Dogs are blowing their coats already, and it's only January.

Brush her every day until it slows down. She is going to blow her coat like this twice a year, so be prepared.

I wouldn't go changing her diet. The new "fad" is for everyone to think that their particular dog has "allergies" and the vets & specialty (expensive) food retailers are running wild with it! Cuz everyone wants to make sure their doggy is treated like royalty - without understanding the cause.
It's perfectly normal for many breeds to lose their puppy coats -as some others have answered. Expect to see her lose coat at least twice a year from now on. And with Goldens - they pretty much shed all the time anyway. But the reason she's shedding right now is probably cuz she's getting rid of her puppy coat & will now grow her adult coat.
And to tell the truth - seasons have little to do with her shedding her coat. If she were living outside all the time - yes, it would affect her. But since she's indoors, she's prone to shed at any given time of the year.
She is fine - have fun - and maybe you can make a sweater from all that hair all over the house! LOL

Maybe she's loosing her baby hair or she's coming in.Call a vet they would know for sure.Is she an inside dog and the temp inside the house makes her body think that it is Spring and time to shed?Good luck .

Is she in the house a lot? That could explain it. Their bodies acclimatize to their environment and if the environment they are in most of the time is warm/hot, they will shed. So get off your @ss and off of Yahoo Answers and take the dog outside for a walk everyday and the shedding will stop.

Not totally sure about this for your dog, but my Scottish Terrier did the same thing and it was his food. He was allergic to it...they put him on a total vegetarian food and his hair loss stopped. Check your dogs skin, just make sure she doesn't have any "hot spots"

Best I can do..
good luck

My guess is she has allergies. Is the skin irritated under the area where she pulls her hair out? Call the vet, it's not normal.

indoor heating is to blame. if she is an outside dog ( i would hope not!) it could be that her internal time clock is expecting spring earlier this year.

nothing to worry about.
