The problem with a ganglion cyst is it's not a normal cyst -- it gets "legs" that will wrap around anything it can to anchor itself. So when it's removed surgically, it almost always comes back just as bad.
Every woman in my family has one -- all in the same place as yours! We've noticed that it "grows" and becomes more painful depending on our hormonal balance. That may be step #1 -- getting your hormones in check as much as possible.
But really, they can drain or surgically remove your cyst for you. Just be prepared for it to come back within a matter of months.
I had a doctor tell me once that I should get my best friend (or worst enemy) to find the biggest book they had and slam it down on my hand to pop it... that's the cheapest method! I don't recommend it, though! :-)

I've had them in my wrist and in the palm of my hand before (just under the finger) and let me tell you...the hand/wrist is the most painful place to get a cortisone shot! I don't mean to scare you but my doctor has told me the same thing. The good news is, they usually have a spray they use to numb the area before the shot. It helps a little bit, but it still hurts something awful! It only lasts a split second, though, and the relief you get from the shot is VERY much worth it! For about an hour or so after you get the shot, your whole hand/wrist will be completely numb..kind of like when your foot falls asleep but it takes longer to wake up. Eventually it starts "waking up" and you get those tingles, but when it's finished the problems you had that caused you to need the cortisone shot feel SO much better. Basically the cortisone shot is used to provide immediate reduction in inflammed tissue (usually tendons/ligaments around a joint). Since the inflammation is causing pain, the reduction in the swelling causes the pain to dissipate. You can't have more than 2-3 cortisone shots in the same location in a year. Doing this will cause the bone to break down, become brittle, and all kinds of bad things.

I had mine surgically removed but it eventually came back. I had it drained and got the cortisone injection which helped for a while. However, the thing that worked to rid it forever was a complete accident. I slipped and fell on it. It popped which hurt like heck at the time but it hasn't come back. A friend had someone whack his wrist to pop his and it didn't come back. Not sure if that's the way to go though. It also helps to limit repetitive motions like video games and typing while you're having treatment.
Good luck.

My daughter had one, you can have surgery but it might come back. The choice was surgery or ...........lay your hand down on a flat surface, palm side up. Either you or someone else take a hard back book and with everything you got smash the book down on the cyst. It will pop and you are good to go.......... So we went and had surgery, $5000.00 dollars later, it returned. My daughter thought it was funny, I did not. So you know what? She smashes it with a book.........sucker is gone and has never returned, it's been 10 years now. Oh yeah, she said it didn't hurt. one bit, but the surgery did.

Hi,
I had one of them on the tendents at the bottom of my finger. I would go to the doctors if i was you, i had to then be transerred to the hospital and have the fluid inside it taken out, it was only small but if it got any bigger it would cause pain on my finger.
I would go to the doctors get it checked out they may be able to drain it or get it removed.
Good Luck

Apply often, letting a small amount of residue remain on it. See a skin specialist, dermatologist.
