Hey!

I have an external hardrive (160gb) and I want to backup my full computer hardrive to it just incase.

That includes, installed programs.. Documents... Settings.. Favourites.. Desktop stuff and stuff.

So it would be like a file 40gb big and I could just open it and it would be like there was never a problem with my computer.

Is there something that can do this?
Many thanks,
- Mike

Any disk cloning program is suitable for it. I use Paragon's drive backup: www.drive-backup.com.

Just do not use any ghost programs, they do not always copy the sub dirs , esp do not use use Norton Ghost , it really sux.
Tell ya what kid. Get a patch, it is so easy and you can copy your whole 40 GB in less then an hour.
the patch can be picked up at any PC tech store.
It is a two way cord that goes from your -out in your tower to your Hard drive.
There are many dif. kinds.
It depends on your HD. the pin configuration,or input.
So take it with you to your PC tech and get the right one unless you know what one to get.
I do it all the time. Never use Ghost!
I done that once and was left with empty folders. never noticed until I formatted me HD, Was i ever upset about that.
I hope you do not make the same mistake.
Patch cords go for about $20.oo Canadian.
When you copy your HD then disconnect it and put it away. If you get a virus in it then cleaning it is a real drag. This way it is safe.
If you get a bug in your computer, just format and copy what you want from your EHD.
Good Luck :)

Windows has got an inbuilt backup facility. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Backup. Follow the instructions to backup your required data in an external hard drive. As it is 40GB, you will need a good number of flash drives or DVDs.
