Father kills daughter; doubted virginity

By SHAFIKA MATTAR, Associated Press Writer

A Jordanian man fatally shot his 17-year-old daughter whom he suspected of having sex despite a medical exam that proved her chastity, an official said Thursday. The man surrendered to police hours after the killing, saying he had done it for family honor.

A state forensic pathologist, who works at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine in Amman where an autopsy was performed, said in a phone interview that the girl had run away from home several times for unknown reasons.

Weeks ago, the girl had returned home from a family protection clinic after doctors had vouched for her virginity and the father had signed a pledge not to harm her, the pathologist said on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the case.

actually this is out of following traditions not Islam.
See, those are called Honor Killings, they happen in Palestine, Jordan in rural area of Egypt and Sudan ( it happens in some part of the west: Brazil, Denmark, Germany… and used to happen in Lebanon as a well.
Men think that if they ever doubted a woman's actions that are related with other men then it is his right to "retrieve" his honor by killing her.
unfortunately it happens a lot, and we can't do anything about it, the government stays out of it and the family keeps everyone else out of the subject as well.
It is not part of Islam in any way

From Wikipedia:
According to Sheikh Atiyyah Saqr, former head of the al-Azhar University Fatwa Committee (one of the oldest and most prestigious in the Muslim world):
Like all other religions, Islam strictly prohibits murder and killing without legal justification. Allah, Most High, says, “Whoso slayeth a believer of set purpose, his reward is Hell for ever. Allah is wroth against him and He hath cursed him and prepared for him an awful doom.” (An-Nisa’: 93) The so-called “honor killing” is based on ignorance and disregard of morals and laws, which cannot be abolished except by disciplinary punishments

Add: and btw in the pre-islamic era it was a common thing to kill your daughters after birth they used to burry them alive, when Islam was established that practice prohibted
they used to burry their own daughters because they believed that it was shameful to have daughters and that they were a heavy burden

Well, this has nothing to do with being Muslim,"honor killings." It is not from the Quran nor from any teachings in Islam. So, you'd have to ask the father himself because in Islam, every man and women will stand alone when they have to answer for their sins. I don't know this man. So, too bad I can't answer your question in full. But, I can add that these honor killings are done world wide and they aren't done by Muslims alone.

That is what we would call an extremist. As there are also christian extremists. Even jewish extremists. Like zionists. As far as I am concerned, he is going to hell if this be a true tale. For he gave false witness and killed unjustly. The quran states to stand for justice even if it be against kin or kith. But if he did this malicous act in regards to killing her unjustly, then he will be condemned to the hell fire in the hereafter. Unless allah wills something else for him. For HE is till all-mercifull and all-forgiving. Though HE is also sever in punishment. He could endure some intense punishment by allah, then still be admitted into some home in the hereafter that is not hell. But also not paradise. Who knows? Allah knows what all knows not. But it seems that he did indeed do an act of malice that would deem him to hell for eternity. But I also could be giving false witness on a life if your story be false.

To answer your question, he was clearly an extremist. It seems he did not even deal kindly with his own child if she was to run away. And on another point. Things like this happen all of the time. Not just in islamic societies. Sad, but true. Not the same scenerio, but same point you are trying to prove. If the story above is true, then he is clearly in the wrong. And he will one day have to answer to allah for that act. PEACE!

I'm no expert on Islam, but this sounds more cultural than religious.

It is very disturbing that someone would murder their own family member just to preserve their own "good standing" in the community. It's a selfish act, motivated by fear of shame. Someone's family members "sins", so they KILL the person to avoid being associated with their relative?

B-A-R-B-A-R-I-C!

"Thou shalt not kill" has become "Thou shaly not kill, unless it helps you politically" in the minds of over a billion people.

This is definitely not a part of Islam in any way.

This comes from tribalism and family honor, which is one of the top priorities of people who were, not so long ago, nomads and Bedouins.
